NSSI TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION Two Most Important Jobs of the NSSI Teacher: Engage in deep intellectual preparation and student work analysis to drive differentiated, student-led instruction Ensure every student feels connected, celebrated, and challenged to think deeply and participate during each class DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DAILY TEACHING: Arrive on time and stay until you are scheduled to leave (7:30 AM - 2:30 PM). Engage in daily intellectual preparation and student work analysis to have clarity around 1) exemplar student work & discussion, 2) potential misconceptions, and 3) questions and teacher moves to address misconceptions and push deeper thinking. Leverage the Mentor Teachers GoogleSlide deck to create and edit a daily lesson to meet the needs of your class. Teach strong, discourse-based lessons aligned with NSSI’s curriculum and instructional overviews. Study and give feedback on 100% of student work each day. Take Attendance daily. If participating in Independent Reading, review student Independent Reading logs and any reports daily and update daily Independent Reading slides for Connection/Celebration/Challenge, focusing on shout outs for kids who are on pace. This should be about 30 minutes/day to ensure a strong Independent Reading program. Edit daily Connection/Celebration/Challenge GoogleSlide deck to be ready for Connection/Celebration/Challenge class. This includes the key question of the day and slides celebrating and challenging students. Call / text / email 10 students & parents / day with the goal of reaching every family at least 3 times over the summer (ideally weekly). PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Attend and actively participate in MANDATORY Teacher Training Institute and complete any necessary pre-work. Session Date June 15 (Thursday) - with completed pre-work Attend and actively participate in a weekly PD (Intellectual Prep & Looking at Student Work) and be ready for class: 1:30-2:30 PM (Thursdays except for Tuesday, June 27,2023) ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Attending any school or network meetings Completing surveys (10 minutes max) 3-4 days over the summer Inputting pre/post assessment data to National Summer School Institute (NSSI) Reading weekly emails from National Summer School Institute (NSSI) Remember, we are all still mandatory reporters Partner teachers should follow the expectations and adult norms of their schools.
