The Skamania School District is seeking outstanding candidates for a Certificated Counselor. This is an excellent opportunity for counselors interested in working with a team of outstanding professionals in a great school program.
Assignment: This part-time (2 days per week) Counselor for the 2023-24 school year will provide academic, mental health, restorative justice support, as well as distance learning and online support (if needed) and after school clubs/sports. Essential Functions:
- School counseling core curriculum: deliver structured lessons to help students attain desired competencies in three domains: academic, career and personal/social; supporting the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for students’ developmental level.
- Individual student planning: coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to assist students in establishing personal goals and developing future goals; provide case management for 504 plans.
- Responsive services: design services to meet students’ immediate needs and concerns, including individual counseling, small-group settings and/or crisis response.
- Indirect student services: interact with others in collaborative settings, consulting with parents, teachers and other providers.
- Accountability: utilize data to determine effectiveness of the school counseling program and counseling interventions to guide future actions and improve future results for all students.
- Support extra-curricular opportunities such as clubs and after school activities.
- Reports directly to and is supervised by the building administrator.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of current or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate in counseling.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Work or volunteer experience with preschool-8th grade children.
- Training in restorative justice practices, conflict resolution and equity.
- Training in and/or experience with counseling students regarding substance abuse, sexual health education, suicide ideation and other personal/social needs.
- Training in teaching social skills, conflict resolution and restorative justice.
- Training in and/or experience with multiple tiers of instruction and support services (MTSS).
- Training in and/or experience in supporting students with challenging behaviors.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
- Three current letters of reference.
- Copies of transcripts and front and back of Washington State Education Staff Associate certificate.
- Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through WSP and FBI.
