POSITION CLASSIFICATION: High School Teacher (Grades 9-12)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Progress Toward Established Achievement Standards
- Teaches skills, knowledge, concepts and attitudes in the subject area (s), utilizing approved courses of studies and other

given grade level.
- Develops instructional plans to organize class activities to provide maximum learning opportunities throughout the time-span
of a course and which will allow students to meet the established standards of student achievement for a given grade level.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small-group instruction in order to
adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Evaluates students’ academic growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. Communicates with parents
and school counselors on the progress of individual students toward meeting the established standards of achievement for a
given grade level.
- Administers group tests in accordance with District or school testing programs. Utilizes the results of testing programs to
identify student needs and provide appropriate instructional activities which will assist students to meet the established
standards of achievement for a given grade level.
- Identifies student needs and works with other professional staff in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and
learning problems.
- Assists District and site-level specialists in the identification, assessment and resolution of special student problems.
Initiates referrals to special programs and services personnel as necessary.
Performance of Non-Instructional Duties
- Selects and requests books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintains inventory records as required and
which establish student accountability for assigned school property.
- Reports student attendance in a manner prescribed by the site administrator. Maintains accurate student academic records,
attendance records, and prepares required forms and reports.
- Is responsible for immediate interior and exterior supervision of students during passing periods, before and after school,
during the lunch period and during other non-instructional periods within the school day.
- Shares in the sponsorship and supervision of student activities and participates in faculty committees.
Establishment of Suitable Learning Environment
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Exercises supervision and care over books, supplies and equipment assigned; instructs students in the proper use and
preservation of school property and any safety regulations required in the operation of equipment.
- Organizes classroom, as appropriate to subject area, to provide maximum learning environment.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains lesson plans, seating charts and instructional materials in such a way that they can be utilized by substitute teaching
personnel when the need arises.
- Develops knowledge and skills essential to teach effectively in two or more curriculum disciplines and maintain professional
competence through inservice education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates with the site administrator or designee to develop mutually the criteria by which he/she will be evaluated in
conformance with the District’s uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
- Participates with the entire school staff to promote effective student learning experiences.
- Possesses a working knowledge of curriculum materials and a willingness to share expertise with staff members.
- Gives input to special programs serving needs of all students assigned to a school site.
- Participates in the development and implementation of District and school curriculum and other assigned District committees.
- Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, volunteers and other paraprofessionals. May work with the
business community, citizen advisory groups or vocational contacts as is appropriate to the subject area.
- Participates, when the need arises, with department chairpersons in the development and implementation of department
programs and budgets.
- Attends required meetings called by administrators and department chairpersons.
- Maintains punctuality for all prescribed functions.
- May coach or assist in coaching interscholastic or other athletic programs.
- Performs other tasks mutually agreed upon with the site administrator.
Requirements / Qualifications
Washington Middle College High School is a dependent charter in West Sacramento’s Washington Unified School District. Our enrollment cap (70 per grade level) and agreement with Sacramento City College’s West Sac Campus create an intimate high school setting and schedule that allows students time to take college courses for dual enrollment credit starting in 9th grade. We offer AVID courses for all students, a blended learning instructional model, and integrated, project-based units aligned to state standards. WMCHS teachers are certificated subject-area experts who collaborate as a schoolwide team to ensure students are safe, motivated, and prepared for college.
