SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive general supervision from the Information Technology Manager. Exercise no supervision of staff.
Class Characteristics
Incumbent is responsible for the analysis, planning, design, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting and enhancement of computer network infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems and desktop/network applications experience. Incumbent is expected to perform a wide variety of duties related to desktop/network applications and computer network infrastructure with only occasional instruction or assistance. Adequate performance at this level requires the knowledge of procedures and the ability to choose among alternatives in solving many problems. Incumbent provides technical direction to system support staff and acts as a professional-level resource for the District.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Perform routine to complex professional-level duties in the analysis, evaluation, design, development, programming, testing, implementation, documentation and maintenance of a variety of systems and programs for the District.
- Provide technical support to existing systems; provide answers to client requests for information on system use; respond to help desk calls and requests for major or minor systems modifications.
- Participate in the diagnosis and repair of computer hardware, software, networks and peripherals; ensure user needs are met and technical support issues are resolved in a timely manner; provide technical assistance to personnel working in the field as needed; conduct site visits as necessary.
- Communicate with administrators, contractors, consultants and other vendors to coordinate activities and programs, schedule work, resolve issues and exchange information.
- Attend and participate in meetings, conferences and seminars related to computer technology to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field.
- Investigate, analyze and resolve routine to complex network related problems; resolve compatibility problems; troubleshoot network failures, Cisco network problems and telecommunications problems; recommend and implement changes and improvements.
- Utilize existing systems and programs to design and code new and modified programs for data processing; assist in the set-up and configuration of microcomputers and related equipment.
- Perform analysis of, plan, develop and administer District Network, WAN and LAN Systems.
- Assist in planning, acquisition, installation and maintenance of new network hardware and software.
- Maintain the network’s Active Directory and Google Administrative Console, including adding and removing users from the directory, granting security access to files and folders on the network and creating and administering distribution groups, security groups, etc.
- Maintain backup of data and program disks; load and unload program material, input and output data; assist in the collection and analysis of local and wide area network performance data; monitor operation of equipment and programs to ensure secure and efficient execution of programs.
- Maintain records including operational documentation, system support logs, equipment inventory, training materials and other pertinent documents related to computer and network operations.
- Research, evaluate and purchase telecommunications equipment and supplies; maintain inventory; track and receive a variety of information systems equipment, software applications, supplies, and training materials while adhering to established purchasing policies.
- Provide training to lower-level and new staff as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of and Ability to:
- Apply principles of computer system operations, peripheral components, hardware, application software and network administration, including systems analysis and development techniques.
- Apply current theory of Information Technology, database management and systems development.
- Apply modern practices in utilizing VMware, LTE, MiFI and telecommunications server management.
- Research techniques, methodology and procedures; file management, administration, storage and handling techniques; and standard office practices and procedures.
- Use proper procedures to creating user accounts in an Active Directory and Google Administrator Console, including adding/deleting users, creating user groups and granting security access.
- Use positive techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with parents, students, community members and staff. Use tact, patience and courtesy.
- Observe all District safe work practices and policies; use proper lifting techniques.
- Maintain personal appearance, grooming and language that provide a satisfactory example to pupils.
- Learn and understand the operation of the District as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities; use tact, initiative, prudence and independent judgment within policy and legal guidelines.

- Prioritize and schedule work and meet deadlines. Maintain records and prepare routine reports.
- Interpret, explain and ensure compliance with District policies and procedures, complex laws, codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Evaluate new technology and serve in an advisory capacity to supervisors and managers.
- Meet the physical demands and environmental elements required by the position.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Equivalent to the completion of an Associate’s degree in computer science, or a related field.
Experience:
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in configuring and maintaining information systems, including Cisco networks, VMware, PC, Apple, Veeam and other operating systems.
Licenses and Certifications:
Licenses and Certifications are conditions of initial and continuing employment.
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver’s License and valid auto insurance.
- Submit, at applicants own expense, his/her DMV motor vehicle driving record at the time of appointment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in disqualification.
- Mileage reimbursements are available for employees required to drive a personal vehicle.
- Certification with CCNA, VMware Certified Professional preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various District sites. Vision ability required, includes: close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus; vision to read printed materials, a computer screen and to drive a vehicle to conduct work. Hearing and speech ability required to communicate in person and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Employee in this classification occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers open and close to retrieve and file information. Employee must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 45 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employee works in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and in the outdoors or crawl spaces completing connections and cabling in varying weather conditions and hot or cold temperatures. Employee will have little direct exposure to hazardous physical substances and chemicals. Employee may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Stress is an integral part of this job in dealing with people and meeting deadlines and workload requirements.
