JOB SPECIFICATION

 

LCAP HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING SPECIALIST

 

THE POSITION

 

Under the guidance of Educational Support Services and the general supervision of the Principal, the High School Counseling Specialist serves as the center of the guidance effort of the school and is the person through whom all pertinent information regarding the at-risk students and English learners is channeled.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:           

  • Educational Support Services Director
  • Principal

                       

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

 

The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:

  • Provide support to site specialists to ensure that at-risk students and English learners are provided with strategic and targeted instruction and appropriate and timely support.
  • Responsible for at-risk students and English learners’ group and individual guidance procedures associated with proper student placement in regard to graduation and beyond.
  • Involvement in at-risk students and English learners’ group and individual pre-disciplinary counseling to keep the student in good standing in all classes.
  • Serve as a source of information for at-risk students and English learners with respect to the school, home and community.
  • Collect and disseminate to at-risk students and English learners and their parents information concerning school offerings, opportunities for further education, and careers and career training opportunities.
  • Assist in the collection and maintenance of pertinent at-risk students and English learners’ pupil data and record individual student contacts.
  • Assist in the follow-up for at-risk students and English learners’ student attendance irregularities when verified by the attendance office.
  • Assist in establishing and coordinating at-risk students and English learners’ student-teacher-counselor-parent conferences.
  • Provide guidance to at-risk students and English learners with academic and/or vocational problems.
  • Counsel at-risk students and English learners regarding school-related personal problems.
  • Provide identification and referral service for at-risk students and English learners having emotional, health, and/or learning problems which are beyond the resources of the local school.
  • Refer at-risk students and English learners with exceptional abilities and needs to appropriate District personnel.
  • Assist in the development and changing of curriculum to meet the needs of at-risk students and English learners.
  • Facilitate frequent progress monitoring of students.
  • Interpret disaggregated data for school community, student, staff, and parents/guardians.
  • Attend District & site professional development and trainings
  • Other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE

  • Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience working with diverse, at-risk population.

 

 

WORK YEAR:                     195 Day Work Year

 

SALARY:                              Counselor/Librarian Salary Schedule
