DEFINITION:

Under the supervision of the Network Coordinator, the Network Technician provides technical support, analyzes problems, and performs maintenance of district end user equipment, servers, peripheral equipment, and local and wide-area network systems; installs system hardware and software programs and other related duties; provides expertise for difficult troubleshooting situations. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Use diagnostic equipment/programs including network analyzers, antenna system analyzers, and cable testers to troubleshoot operational, hardware, software and network problems and effect/coordinate resolution.
  • Maintain network equipment including the configuration of content filters.
  • Manage Active Directory and Google Apps for Education domain objects including user accounts and devices.
  • Manage VoIP phone, voicemail, and related communication systems.
  • Support camera surveillance systems and related equipment.
  • Support school paging systems and related equipment.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains classroom audio and visual equipment including projectors, televisions, and speakers.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains District technology including desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, network hardware, cabling, servers, disk drives, and other internal PC components, and peripherals.
  • Troubleshoots and coordinates resolution of operational, hardware, software, and network problems.
  • Installs, tests, and troubleshoots network hardware and various network cable standards including copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Troubleshoot computer data communication to the network and equipment.
  • Provide personal consultation and training to users of district technology.
  • Resolves users’ problems involving software and cloud-based applications.
  • Assists with maintaining hardware and software inventory.
  • Installs new/updates of District licensed software
  • Under the guidance of the Technology Support Managers, prioritizes, initiates and completes assigned work within the Technology Support ticket system.
  • Submits warranty claims to manufacturers and vendors
  • Performs other duties assigned directly related to the position that are of incidental nature. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge Of:

  • Basic electrical and electronic theory
  • Various types of electronic test equipment, materials and tools used in repair work
  • Personal computer operating systems from Microsoft Windows, macOS, IOS, Android, and Chrome OS
  • Microsoft Office applications
  • Google Workspace
  • Common personal computer business and utility software
  • Active Directory related software tools
  • Enterprise Imaging and Antivirus software
  • Wireless networking protocols 

Ability to:

  • Explain and instruct computer users regarding basic computer functions and operations.
  • Perform necessary servicing and repair of computers and related computer hardware
  • Setup and troubleshoot audio systems and equipment.
  • Operate electronic measuring and testing equipment
  • Install and operate various computer hardware and software applications.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematic diagrams, factory repair manuals and other technical literature
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Prepare and present complete and accurate written and verbal reports.
  • Work and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Initiate and exercise good judgment.

  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Practice proper methods and safety procedures for operating light power tools.

 Education & Experience:

  • Two-year degree in a computer related discipline or recent equivalent experience in the field of computer and network service.
  • Three years of experience maintaining and installing networked computer systems in a Microsoft environment with emphasis on PC’s and compatibles.
  • Three years of experience in a technical support capacity with significant direct interaction with users.

 Equipment and License:

  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Evidence of appropriate insurance based on DMV regulations.
  • Drive a personal vehicle to conduct work as required by the position.
  • Criminal justice fingerprint clearance 

Physical Effort / Work Environment:

  • Exert 20 to 60 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, climb ladders, and crawl under buildings and through attics.
  • Good near and far vision and depth perception.
  • Ability to provide oral information.
  • The manual dexterity to operate business related equipment.
  • Ability to handle and work with various materials and objects that are important aspects of this job.
