St. Patrick Catholic School in Carlsbad is looking for a librarian to support our school's literacy program. The librarian will have weekly classes with K - 6 and provide times throughout the school day for students to visit the library.

Job Summary

The school librarian is responsible for the development of student literacy through the library media program, building and maintaining the collection, providing instruction in the skills needed to use instructional materials and research and reference tools effectively. Additional services include storytelling, the introduction of literature, integration of instructional materials, and overseeing the library: information and curriculum resource selection, ordering, inventory, circulation, utilization, organization, and maintenance.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

 

  • Creates an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff
  • Coordinates and runs annual book fairs and school wide literacy events
  • Maintains the library, orders books, media and materials based on student interest and academic needs.
  • Supports Accelerated Reader throughout the entire campus
  • Remains current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs
  • Conducts and maintains annual inventory.
  • Trains student volunteers.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the parish/school facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
