SUMMARY OF POSITIONS: Work cooperatively under the direction of the site administrator to support instructional activities of students. A majority of the assignment will be spent working directly with students in a capacity that meets learning and physical needs of students. Reinforcing learning concepts at the teacher’s or specialist’s direction in small groups or as needed. Assist in the supervision of the students’ activities at recess and/or lunch. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Direct supervision of School Administration. May receive technical or functional supervision from a certificated instructor, or other certificated personnel. DUTIES: ? Assist the teacher in planning and carrying out the activities of the instructional program while maintaining effective communication to assure that appropriate institutional goals are implemented and assessed on a regular basis ? Assist the teacher in the preparation of instructional materials and study aids to be used by students in classrooms or individual study situations ? Assist students in understanding and clarifying instructional assignments under teachers’ direction ? Work independently with small groups of students and individuals including physical tasks to meet the needs of students with disabilities ? Assist in administering and scoring of tests and examinations ? Interpret purposes and activities of the instructional program and District Mission to students, parents, and community members ? Maintain records as needed for program management and legal compliance ? Report any unusual student behavior, including suspected child abuse to the instructor ? Supervise children in non-classroom settings ? Refer discipline problems to instructor and/or site administration ? May assist in the arrangement of field trips; accompany class on field trips; assist in the supervision of class on field trips ? Perform a variety of general clerical tasks including assisting the teacher with preparing and copying of classroom instructional materials. ? Other related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE OF: ? Correct English usage including vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation ? Specific teaching methods and techniques related to the school’s instructional plan ? General classroom procedures and rules of conduct ? Effective communication in both oral and written form ? Basic computer knowledge ? Operation of DVD/VCR ABILITY TO: Accept supervision and work harmoniously with the staff. Support of the school/program in planning and implementation of instructional program and related activities. Show care and concern for students in an educationally appropriate manner. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about the status of students and classroom activities. Understand, implement, and give oral and written directions in English. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: All individuals must pass a pre-employment examination, TB clearance, and pass fingerprint screening. In addition, any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Training: Minimum: Equivalent to high school graduation Desired: A.A. Degree Experience: Job related experience is desired. ADA REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; some reaching with the use of hands.
