Job Summary
This is an open and promotional recruitment to establish an eligibility list to fill the current vacant position. The eligibility list will also be used to fill any vacancies which may occur within a period of one year, or until the eligibility list is depleted. The current vacancy will work 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, with working hours from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. The recruitment process will consist of a training and experience evaluation and a structured interview. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Maintenance Services Supervisor, the Grounds Maintenance Irrigation Specialist performs specialized work in the design, installation, testing, repair and maintenance of District irrigation systems; performs other pipe fitting, plumbing and related electrical work; ensures the completion of projects in a timely manner and according to specifications; troubleshoots and performs preventive maintenance; prepares designs and blueprints for irrigation systems; operates a variety of hand and power tools power equipment.
Requirements / Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of increasingly responsible experience in the design, installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Valid California Driver's License (Class C or higher) and insurability. Pre-employment physical examination including negative drug screen. Fingerprint clearance issued by the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). TB clearance issued within past four years. Documentation demonstrating authorization to work in the United States (I-9). ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor work environment. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil, grease, and gases. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate grounds maintenance and irrigation equipment and tools. Walking or standing for extended periods of time. Seeing to perform irrigation, gardening, and grounds work. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects as assigned by position (75 to 100 pounds occasionally) Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally. Climbing ladders and working from heights. Heavy physical labor. HAZARDS: Exposure to chemicals used in pest control and weed abatement. Exposure to recycled, non-potable water. Working around and with machinery having moving parts. Working on ladders and in trenches.
