ALTA LOMA SCHOOL DISTRICT TEMPORARY UTILITY WORKER DEFINITION Under general supervision of the director of Maintenance and Operations, perform various custodial, grounds and maintenance activities; and to do other related work as required. This position is temporary and short in duration. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • General indoor cleaning. • General outdoor cleaning. • May perform minor maintenance tasks in keeping assigned areas safe and operational. • Assist in any of the skilled trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, air-conditioning and heating, locksmithing, plastering or welding. • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment such as replacing furnace filters, adjust and service motors, belts and shafts. • Assists in alterations, repairs, and construction of articles and structures. • Operate a variety of power grounds equipment, including large gang mowers, tractors, backhoe equipment, and trencher. • Manual grounds maintenance labor. • May apply herbicides. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques; Cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment; Common tools, materials and equipment used in the various building and maintenance trades; Operation, use, and maintenance of light and heavy duty grounds maintenance equipment; Methods, procedures, materials, and tools commonly utilized in grounds maintenance; Safe working methods and procedures. Ability to: Perform moderately medium to heavy manual activities; Efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment; Skillfully and safely operate and maintain light and large grounds equipment and use a variety of grounds maintenance and gardening tools; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: Experience: One to two years experience as a custodian or in a related field. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
