Theatre/ English Teacher - Dana Middle School (23-24 school year) at Arcadia Unified School District
Requirements / Qualifications
1) Valid Single Subject English issued before 1/1/22 with English Learner Authorization OR Valid Single Subject Theatre Arts, or Multiple Subject with Drama Auth. and English Learner Authorization If you are currently finishing student teaching but do not yet have a CA credential issued by CTC, please provide written documentation from the university that you are on track to finish with an anticipated completion date listed. 2) EL Certification (CLAD,etc) 3) Three (3) current letters of reference/recommendation 4) Current Resume 5) Transcripts - BA/BS degree and beyond 6) CBEST or BSR equivalency as approved by CTC. 7) CSET copies 8) Cover Letter
Major Duties & Responsibilities: • Creates a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued as part of the class community • Develops sequential, innovative and engaging assignments and performance opportunities for the students • Demonstrates familiarity with California VAPA standards for Theatre and can connect standards to classroom projects and performances • Understands the unique characteristics of middle school students as they relate to theatre curriculum • Can explain and demonstrate acting principles to students such as using facial expressions, body language, gestures and voice to communicate character traits • Provides students with feedback, encouragement and support • Is high energy and able to handle the physical demands of the job • Selects, edits, casts, and directs plays and other performances for public audiences • Procures costumes, props and supplies for class projects and performances • Manages and coordinates all aspects of producing a play including ticket sales, publicity, programs, house crew, refreshments, videography, etc. • Knows technology and how to use it to create and enhance theatrical experiences • Works with students and other District personnel on technical aspects of shows including lighting, sounds, set construction, etc. • Is a skilled and passionate leader who will advocate for arts education in the district • Works with colleagues to schedule shows around other school events • Creates and directs theatrical performances to support other school curricula • Is flexible, adaptive, independent, optimistic • Understands and applies the ELA/ELD Framework and can teach the ELA content standards
