Job Summary
The job of Behavioral Intervention Specialist is done for the purpose of leading and supporting the members of the school staff in various aspects of assuring that effective and efficient behavioral intervention and support systems are in place to support continuous academic progress of students. This individual will serve as a liaison for various members of the learning community in various aspects of the instructional program including but not limited to the following: consult and collaborate with educational staff regarding students with emotional and behavioral needs; instruction and support to staff on behavioral analysis, positive behavioral support and reinforcement systems, social skills training, etc; determine function of behavior and monitoring student progress; differentiating instruction or interventions to meet student needs; creating and/or designing data collection procedures; professional development; positive replacement behavior and classroom strategies for behavioral program management; parent involvement and communication; and promoting safe schools. The Behavioral Intervention Specialist works under the general supervision and direction of the Director of Special Education and/or a designee and under the direct supervision of the principal while at school sites.
Requirements / Qualifications
CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: • A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work, behavior modification or behavioral therapy preferred • Pupil Personnel Services Credential in Psychology Required • License in Psychology, BCBA, Clinical Social Work, or MFT highly desired • Valid California driver’s license • Biliterate and bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desirable • Strong background and demonstrated success in applied behavioral analysis, observation, assessment, successful implementation of behavioral intervention plans in collaboration with teachers. • Demonstrated success in creating/designing effective data collection procedures for use in classroom settings by teachers and instructional assistants to monitor behavior and determine function of behavior; also self-monitoring systems for student driven data collection as appropriate. • Experience or leadership in mentoring, peer coaching, and conducting professional development. • Training and experience in school-wide and classroom behavioral management systems and positive replacement behavior and classroom strategies for program management of students.
