CERES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Learning Director Reports To: Site Principal and/or Associate/Assistant Principal Salary: Administrator Salary Schedule Classification: Administrative Management FLSA: Exempt (salaried) Work Year: 12 Months – 202 or 210 Work Days Board Ratified: 4/17/08 BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the Principal or Associate/Assistant Principal, assists the administration in managing and administering school programs. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: • Instructional Support: o Assists with the development of the Master Schedule o Assists in a smooth articulation with the Junior High School curriculum and provides for University, Community College, and Trade School articulation o Development of teachers by providing input on student/teacher relations, classroom visitations, and assisting with professional development o Participates in school-wide training, decision making, and related activities to provide the counseling perspective to school management and staff with regard to teachers, students and parents o Conducts parent/teacher conferences, retention meetings, and provides CAHSEE student counseling • Educational Development: o Aids students in establishing educational goals o Develops a four-year plan for all students o Attends all SST’s, IEP’s, and 504 meetings of students in case load acting as school administrator as needed o Selects, schedules, and assists personnel in providing services designed to meet students’ individual needs o Evaluates student’s program at each credit reporting period; making necessary changes o Maintains open communication with other district school sites to facilitate the best alternative program for students o Supervises administration and recording of survey and test results o Holds formal and informal conferences with all caseload students at least once a year, or more often when needed • Career Development: o Designs and develops appropriate education program based on student’s career goals o Provides a system to ensure equitable dissemination of materials and information concerning colleges, jobs, scholarships, student loans, and grants to all 9-12 grade students o Provides orientation, career, and group activities to promote self-direction • Personal Development: o Counsels with individual students to build positive attitudes, self-understanding, and self-reliance o Communicates with parents to maximize students’ social and academic adjustment, interpreting test scores, explaining school policies, and assisting in parental understanding of child development o Utilizes all available resources (i.e. Alternative Education, Advanced Education, Special Education, and Community Services, etc.) to meet the individual needs of each student • Social Development: o Counsels with groups/individual students to promote confidence and interaction, solve problems, and assist in decision-making o Serves as a referral agent and consults with teachers to promote cooperative efforts o Serves as liaison with community agencies and organizations concerned with child welfare and attendance • Student Attendance / Discipline: o Assists students with the resolution of attendance problems o Supports and guides students in making healthy decisions about attendance, behavior, future plans, and other areas as needed by working directly with students individually and in small groups o Coordinates assignment of work missed due to absence or administrative action, upon request of the student or parent; refers students for Independent Study o Serves as a liaison with community agencies and organizations concerned with child welfare and attendance o Informs and counsels with families of persistent attendance offenders and implements related disciplinary measures as needed o Refers persistent attendance offenders to the School Attendance Review Board • Testing Programs: o Plans, organizes, and/or assists with testing programs; for example: CAHSEE, STAR, CELDT, SAT, PSAT, AP, ACE, & SABE o Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and working abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and working with students in developing career/academic plans in terms of such evaluation o Assists teachers in understanding their students’ aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data and works with teachers to develop instructional plans for their students • Responsibilities for Non-Counseling Duties: o Chairs school site committees as assigned (i.e., PTSA, ELAC, etc.) o Coordinates academic support programs with Educational Options o Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned o Supervises and directs the counseling technicians and other paraprofessional staff as assigned o Perform Certificated Alternative Evaluations and Classified Evaluations o Maintains accurate and timely records of student, parent and staff contacts o Develops and maintains contacts with social service, law enforcement, private and public agencies to the benefit of students o Meets with assigned departments or designated organizational units (i.e. teams, career schools, etc.) o Assists in the development and delivery of the registration process for new and continuing students o Conducts meetings o Plans, organizes, and/or assists with orientation programs for feeder schools o Takes an active role in interpreting the school’s objectives to teachers, students, parents, and the community at large by maintaining high visibility at student and community events o Daily participation in campus supervision and student discipline o Confers with teachers, parents, and others who may assist in problem-solving o Works with teachers and other staff to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled o Supervises the preparation and processing of college scholarships and employment applications o Acts as community service coordinator • Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and application of: Guidance and counseling techniques and methods; development and maintenance of class assignments; master schedule preparation; college and university admission requirements; career preparation and planning; graduation requirements; and laws relating to student counseling and guidance. Ability to: • Work effectively with a wide variety of organizations and with people of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds • Understand, implement, and give complex oral and written directions in English • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work • Compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling • Demonstrate computer skills • Manage confidential student files and records • Manage time and resources to serve assigned students • Assist students in constructive problem solving and long term planning CREDENTIALS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Credentials: Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential (if funded by 1802 funds) and/or Administrative Credential, CBEST Education: Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university preferred Experience: Any combination of two years teaching experience and/or two years student counseling experience, or administrative experience PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
