Job Description 

TITLE:                                    Inclusion Specialist

DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services the Inclusion Specialist will offer professional development opportunities for teachers, students, Behavior Intervention Assistants, and Instructional Aides, at the school sites in the area of autism and individual student differences.  Provide professional development to school site personnel regarding effective methods of accommodating and modifying materials for special needs students.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Advise on IEP goals pertaining to inclusion, independence, and/or social skills for Special Education students. Coordinate student data and monitor progress on goals. Participate as a member of the IEP team.

Act as the liaison between general education and special education staff assisting teachers and students to participate in reverse mainstreaming. Assure on-going communication between general and special education

Coordinate and organize Special Education inclusion; assuring all documentation/consent forms are complete and organized.  Work within general education classroom’s schedule to create inclusion opportunities.

Consult with Education Psychologist, Speech Therapist and other specialists regarding inclusion.

Collaborate with students, parents and instructional staff to ensure that IEPs and Behavior Support Plans are implemented.

Maintain strong relationships with students, parents and staff.

Create and monitor students ABA program binders that contain their 1:1 curriculum

Helps evaluate data and reports and maintains quality control.

 Maintain regular attendance.

 Work cooperatively with others.

Perform other related duties as assigned. 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, from accredited college or university; course work in behavior interventions, psychology, child development or other related area preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: 

Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.

Experience working with individuals with disabilities whose primary needs relate to social emotional/behavioral domains and who require intensive behavior interventions to access educational goals.

Understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and the behavior support plan process; ability to implement individual education and behavior support plans, gather and interpret data and provide reports for teacher.

Knowledge of crisis management techniques; ability to react effectively in emergency situations; knowledge of and ability to exercise appropriate physical restraints when necessary.


Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and community, orally and in writing.

 Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

Successful work experience with students exhibiting emotional and behavioral disorders.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. 

Physical Effort/Work Environment

Strenuous physical effort; Ability to lift, bend. May  include frequent standing, walking, lifting and occasional climbing, crawling or stooping; use of medium weight tools and materials; indoor/outdoor work environment.

 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

A pre-placement physical examination may be required. 

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage that conforms to California state law.

 Evidence of a negative TB test every four years.
