Job Summary
Troy High School is seeking a highly motivated, professional, energetic and certified Marine, Navy, or Coast Guard Instructor (E6-E9) to fill a Naval Science Instructor (NSI) position. The NJROTC unit has been a Distinguished Unit every year since 2001, has been named the Best in Area 11 for the past five years, and routinely competes at the national level. Our unit averages approximately 280 cadets, and we field teams in Color Guard, armed and unarmed drill, marksmanship, Cyberpatriot, SeaPerch, RoboSub (autonomous underwater robotics), academics, athletics, and orienteering. The unit receives great support from the school, local chapters of national organizations, and local communities. Our Cadets comprise over ten percent of the school and are integrated with every school event and organization. The Cadets are motivated and dedicated. Our Booster Club is extremely supportive. Instructors must be willing to support after hour events and competitions throughout the school year.
Requirements / Qualifications
Requires a Standard Designated Special Subjects Teaching Credential: JROTC Requirements for five-year Preliminary Credential: 1. Verify 4 years experience (at least 1 year of the experience must be within the 3-year period immediately preceding the issuance of the credential) or education: experience must be verified by the branch of the military service sponsoring the program in the employing school district; 2. Obtain the recommendation of the branch of military service sponsoring the program in the employing school district. 3. Must have satisfied and possess ONE of the following: HS diploma; GED; or foreign equivalent of a HS diploma. 4. Must have satisfied ONE of the following: Complete a 2 semester/3 quarter unit course in the Provisions and Principals of the US Constitution at a regionally-accredited college or university (and be able to submit a copy of the course description for evaluation purposes).; and, 5. Obtain verification by the Employing School District or CCTC-approved program sponsor that the applicant is aware of the requirements to CLEAR the preliminary.
If the candidate is only missing the US Constitution requirement listed, a Preliminary Special Subjects credential may be issued for 1 year. Once the US Constitution requirement is met, the document will be extended the additional 4 years.
