Job Summary

The Golden Charter Academy is an innovative start-up charter school that opened in Fresno, CA in August 2021. It is a place-based, science-oriented school that emphasizes environmental stewardship, social justice, and equity. The instructional approach employs Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a strategy to provide successful pathways for student success in all learners. GCA has a formal partnership with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, where students utilize the zoo as a living, educational laboratory. The Golden Charter Academy is seeking a highly skilled and committed Assistant Principal for their charter school that is open for grades TK – 7th. GCA will be growing to include 8th grade in the 2026-27 school year. On February 24, 2025 GCA broke ground on it's new sustainable, green facility across the street from the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.

Requirements / Qualifications

The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the GCA Leadership Team, supporting the Principal in leading and managing all aspects of school operations and instructional leadership. This includes advancing the mission of Golden Charter Academy—to cultivate environmental stewardship, academic excellence, and character development through place-based learning experiences. Qualifications • Master’s degree in Education or related field required • CA Administrative Services Credential • Minimum 3 years of teaching or leadership experience (charter or public school setting preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills • Demonstrated success implementing UDL, MTSS, restorative practices, or environmental literacy. • Experience working with diverse student populations and families in urban or community-centered schools. • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is a list of duties that are representative of the position and include but are not limited to:
• Collaborate with the Principal, Instructional Coaches, and grade-level teams to implement the Universal Playbook and ensure fidelity to GCA’s curriculum pacing guides. • Support staff in implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and evidence-based instructional practices. • Monitor academic performance metrics (NWEA MAP, CAASPP, curriculum-based assessments) and guide teachers in developing action plans for improvement. • Support development of school-wide intervention and enrichment structures that meet the needs of all learners. • Lead implementation of GCA’s restorative justice framework and oversee discipline procedures that align with GCA’s GOLDEN Rules. • Collaborate with the Dean of Operations and Dean of Student Services to ensure consistent behavior expectations, documentation, and data analysis through DeansList. • Partner with families and staff to resolve concerns using restorative conferencing and trauma-informed practices. • Model and promote a positive, inclusive, and safe environment grounded in GCA’s core values: Give Respect, Obligation, Love Learning, Dedication, Elevate, Never Quit. • Collaborate with the Field Ranger Coordinator and external partners (e.g., Fresno Chaffee Zoo, Sierra Foothills Conservancy) to integrate place-based environmental learning across the curriculum. • Support implementation of civic action and stewardship projects that align with the Environmental Principles and Concepts (EPCs) and NAAEE pillars. • Strengthen community partnerships that enhance learning opportunities for scholars and families. • Represent GCA at community and district meetings, maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders. • Support the Principal with LCAP, CSI, and Community Schools reporting requirements. • Assist in developing and managing the master schedule, student placement, and attendance monitoring. • Participate in the preparation and review of all required state and federal compliance reports (attendance, safety, academic progress, etc.). • Serve as administrator designee in the absence of the Principal. • Ensure implementation of emergency preparedness and campus safety procedures. • Supervise and evaluate certificated and classified staff using GCA’s evaluation systems. • Support new teacher onboarding, residency partnerships, and mentoring programs. • Lead or co-facilitate professional development aligned with school goals and staff needs. • Promote a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, collaboration, and reflective practice.
