POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position of Teacher Librarian is under the direct supervision of the Principal. The Teacher Librarian is responsible for providing all students and teachers with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students and teachers in acquiring the academic skills needed to take full advantage of the instructional program and library resources within the Albany Unified School District. DUTIES – E=Essential Duties Establish/Maintain a multi-media library collection E; maintain a student service centered philosophy regarding the development and use of the library E; maintain positive student, community and staff relationships; lead the library toward becoming a comprehensive media center E; plan and coordinate school library programs with the instructional programs of a school district E; select materials for school library E; develop procedures for and management of the school library E; may include storytelling E; other duties as assigned E; may be responsible for delivering teacher prep time E; provide leadership and expertise in acquiring and evaluating information resources in all formats and in bringing an awareness of information issues into collaborative relationship with teachers, administrators, students and community E; aid all students and teachers in acquiring the academic skills needed to take full advantage of the instructional program and library resources E ABILITY TO: Supervise an assigned campus area; speak clearly, provide information in an understandable manner and give directions to others; establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, students, and parents; assure student compliance with the policies and procedures of the school and District; observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action; communicate effectively using standard English; work with a diverse community KNOWLEDGE/SKILL

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  1. Knowledge technology (hardware and software) that supports instruction, circulation of materials, book processing, and research
  2. Knowledge of: children’s literature (elementary level), adult and young adult literature (middle school and high school)
  3. Thorough understanding of literacy (i.e. listening, speaking, reading, writing and literature appreciation)
  4. Knowledge of State Curriculum Standards
  5. Group management skills
  6. Prioritize workload and conflicting demands
  7. 7.      Organizational skills 
  8. Work collaboratively in a team environment
  9. Establish and maintain successful working relationships

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  3. Current Valid Teacher Librarian Services Credential or Library Media Specialist
  4. EL Authorization
  5. Tuberculosis Clearance
  6. Fingerprint Clearance
