GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The individual serving in this position will teach Spanish language in a high school setting. This individual is expected to integrate all aspects of the Spanish Standards into the curriculum. The individual selected will have demonstrated an ability to provide an educational program for students that lead to each student’s optimum physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth. Additionally, the teacher provides an environment, instruction, and assessment that lead to growth for all students in the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs). The individual will determine, in cooperation with the principal, standards of pupil growth and achievement, while providing a suitable learning environment and standard of respectful classroom conduct. The candidate is expected to be able to apply instructional strategies that engage students and are shown to improve student achievement. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with department members and the school community to accomplish department and school goals while continuing to improve as an effective educator. Priority will be given to a candidate with successful high school experience in this subject.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Possession of a valid California teaching credentials, that authorize instruction in teaching the Spanish language at the secondary level; CLAD or equivalent; and ability to meet all NCLB requirements.
EXPERIENCE: Successful experience teaching at the secondary level is desirable; multicultural experience is also desirable.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic knowledge of teaching methods in the subject matter mentioned above; general technical and professional knowledge of learning styles; knowledge of the Spanish culture and methodology of teaching the Spanish language; state academic content standards in foreign language; behavioral characteristics and methods of communicating with and instructing students; knowledge of state Spanish content standards; varied assessment strategies; ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners. The candidate is expected to understand and demonstrate knowledge of high quality, effective instruction.
ABILITIES: Demonstrates ability to work with students, teachers, administrators, and parents; communicates easily and effectively, both orally and in writing.
