The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for the anticipated part-time faculty Counseling positions for the 2023-2024 year starting summer or fall 2023 semester, beginning July 2023.

El Camino College is seeking individuals to provide counseling services to a diverse student population including new and re-entering students; those pursuing career and transfer goals, and academic progress/probation for program specific and general student population. The assignments may be in a myriad of areas counseling services are assigned including, but not limited to, Career Services, EOPS/NextUp, First Year Experience, Outreach, Dual-Enrollment/Career Pathways, Special Resource Center (DSPS), Student Success Program, International Students, Warrior Welcome Center, Veterans, meta major counseling areas or an equity based special program(such as Guardian Scholars(current/foster youth), formerly-incarcerated/system impacted, immigrant student groups, LGBTQIA+, Umoja Project Success, etc.) Positions may include holistic and intrusive counseling, case management, and working collaboratively with instructional faculty as embedded counselors and/or presenting in classrooms or in course learning management system for online courses. Further assignments may include recruitment into a special program or cohort and working with faculty and staff to promote equity mindedness and cultural responsiveness.

Typical duties include: Counseling students in all academic and career/technical areas; providing virtual counseling and/or group counseling; participation in the matriculation process, including assessment, orientation, development of student education plans and identifying retention strategies to achieve desired outcome and follow-up; teaching in the area of career planning and/or orientation; career planning with deciding students, counseling probation/dismissal status students; recruitment, and in fostering continuing relationships with District high schools, and other duties as assigned by dean.

Faculty job responsibilities include maintaining records of services provided to prospective and current students, assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. Some assignments may include evenings, weekends, and/or student support services for dual enrollment courses offered offsite on high school campuses.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, counseling psychology, clinical psychology; guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or family and child counseling; or EOPS position requires additional qualifications as listed below; OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to

July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355).

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR:

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services

Two years of occupational experience relating to ethnic minorities or persons challenged by language, social or economic disadvantages, AND minimum of nine (9) semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages, OR

Six (6) semester units or the equivalent of college-level counseling practicum or acceptable counseling fieldwork courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR:

Special Resource Center - Disabled Students and Program Services (DSPS)

Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling; OR

Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling; OR

Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling; AND

possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services Program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities; OR

Two years of fulltime experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or (B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Recent California Community College counseling experience.

Recent experience counseling specialized populations such as first year and first-generation students, formerly incarcerated/system impacted, current and former foster youth, undocumented and Dreamers, LGBTQIA+, and other educationally or socio economically disadvantaged students.

Experience with case management in educational or community service settings.

Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural and socially diverse student population.

Knowledge and experience with equity-grounded counseling practices.

Knowledge of career and vocational counseling trends.

Knowledge of transfer counseling.

Adept with computers and software applications; knowledge of Microsoft, Scheduling Software, Educational Planning Software, and video conferencing programs helpful.

Bi-lingual experience highly desirable.

SALARY:

Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is 54.56 - $65.74 per hour depending on education and experience.

Part-time, hourly, on-call positions, on as-needed basis and according to assigned program qualification requirements, such as counseling within meta majors, FYE, Career, Outreach, Dual Enrollment/Career Pathways, EOPS/NextUp, Guardian Scholars, International students, formerly incarcerated, undocumented/Dreamers, LGBTQIA+, Umoja Project Success, SRC, Student Success Program, Veterans, and embedded counseling for the 2023-2024 year starting summer or fall 2023 semester, beginning July 2023.
