DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Director of Technology, Assessment and Accountability, install, maintain and support servers, laptops, desktops and mobile devices, Local Area Networks (LANs/WLANs), educational technologies, security, communications hardware/software, and a variety of software applications; assist with the coordination of the District’s computer information function and provide technical assistance to District personnel based on formal training and experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Installs, maintains, supports, and administers servers, laptops, desktops and mobile devices, Local Area Networks (LANs/WLANs), educational technologies, communications, hardware and a variety of software applications;
  • Installs, deploys, and manages network services such as security, print, email, web, database, file sharing, and other network operations;
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of the District’s computer information and computer operation functions as they relate to District laptops, desktops and mobile devices and related software applications and security;
  • Installs and maintains a variety of laptops, desktops and mobile devices hardware and peripheral equipment; install and maintain LANs and provide user support;
  • Provides technical assistance to District personnel concerning hardware and software operation and use as requested;
  • Evaluates, prioritizes and coordinates requests for service; assists District users in resolving system and program concerns and issues;
  • Installs, maintains and provides user support related to a variety of software applications; provide technical training in application operation and provide technical information and assistance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Installs and maintains data communication hardware and software; provide user support;
  • Installs, connects and maintains educational technology hardware and computers; provide user support;
  • Trains District personnel in computer systems procedures and use of computer hardware and software;
  • Evaluates and recommends technology purchases, upgrades, and replacement;
  • Contacts hardware and software manufacturers to obtain product assistance, and quotes;
  • Performs data entry and information processing operations; maintain access and maintenance to District student files and databases;
  • Operates a variety of laptops, desktops and mobile devices, and use hand tools for repair;
  • Requisitions and maintains an adequate inventory of computer supplies and parts;
  • Troubleshoots and resolves network, workstation, telecommunications, hardware, software, and peripheral equipment problems; consults with Systems Analyst as appropriate for larger projects and more advanced troubleshooting;
  • Installs, maintains, and provides support for audio/visual technology, including projectors, control systems, and digital imaging devices;
  • Installs, maintains, and provides support for interactive systems, including interactive boards, interactive projectors, interactive handheld devices, and student response systems;
  • Installs, maintains, and provides support for security surveillance systems, including cameras, security software, and security video storage servers;
  • ·       Tracks and reports on laptops and other mobile devices using system tracking/recovery software;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: 

Minimum of three years of experience with laptops, desktops and mobile devices hardware and software applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, database management systems and communications software and hardware.

 

  • Certification, Credential and Education:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college or vocational-level training in computer systems and/or networking.  Cisco specialty certifications and/or other technical school certifications desired.

 

  • Skills and Knowledge:

Technical operation of a variety of laptops, desktops and mobile devices, peripheral equipment, communications hardware and a wide variety of software applications;

Safe working methods and procedures;

Oral and written communication skills;

Interpersonal skills and customer service using tact, patience and courtesy.

 

  • Ability to:

Install, maintain and support laptops, desktops and mobile devices, LANs, educational technologies, communications hardware and a variety of software and security applications;

Assist with the coordination of the District’s computer information function and provide technical assistance to District personnel;

Read, understand and apply technical and complex documents;

Learn and apply new concepts in computer systems;

Update and document procedures;

  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

TB test clearance, criminal justice fingerprint clearance, and pre-employment physical and drug test. *Possession of a valid Class III California Driver’s License; have an acceptable driving record; and qualify for insurability by the district’s liability insurance carrier.
