Welcome to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District website. We are the largest school district in Santa Barbara County with about 17,500 pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. FOOD SERVICE WORKER I
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, maintain food service facilities and equipment in a neat, clean, safe, and sanitary condition; assist in the preparation, setting up, serving, and selling of food; load and unload food service materials and supplies.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Clean serving counters, tables, chairs, food containers, and other equipmentE; operate dishwasher and wash trays, plates, utensils, and other serving equipmentE; assist in setting up food preparation linesE; heat, set up, sell, and serve food to students and facultyE; assist in preparation of food, such as preparing sandwiches, mixing salads and dressings, grating cheese, and preparing fruits and vegetablesE; assist in the receiving, loading, unloading, and storing of foodstuffs, rotating stock, supplies, and materialsE; clean and store kitchen equipment; serve as meal checker as assigned; supervise children in cafeteria as assigned; perform basic recordkeeping activities as assigned; perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Basic methods of preparing and serving foods in large quantities;
Standard food service appliances and equipment;
Basic arithmetic and simple recordkeeping procedures.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of food service equipment;
Collect money and make change accurately;
Work quickly and efficiently;
Lift and transport foods, materials and supplies;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
Read and follow written directions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Driver's License for assignments which require driving a district vehicle and/or multiple location assignments;
Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment:
Food service environment;
Subject to heat from ovens, cold from walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
Physical Abilities:
Lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects;
Standing or walking for extended periods of time;
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment;
Carrying, pushing or pulling food trays, carts, materials and supplies;
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally;
Seeing to assure proper quantities of food;
Hearing and speaking to exchange information;
Bending at the waist.
Hazards:
Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects;
Exposure to sharp knives and slicers;
Exposure to cleaning agents and pesticides.
