BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Assists the Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, in procedures for assessment, placement, and education of special education students. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Acts as consultant for school appraisal team as assigned. 2. Acts as case manager/carrier for Education Assessment Service level students as assigned, assuring that all necessary assessment has been done, and the case is ready for presentation within timelines and district schedules. Directs notification procedures for IEPT. 3. Recommends administrative placement for special day class students to the Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services. 4. May act as child advocate when not responsible for student, as requested by school district. 5. Assesses students, writes psychological reports for file. Reviews files for correctness, eliminating outdated and inappropriate material for removal to inactive file. 6. Advises Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, of needs for special classes and services, staff development, use of program specialists. 7. Acts as consultant, and my provide in-service for special education staff as requested. 8. Tests, consults, counsels, etc. for non-special education programs as approved by the Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. May assist day class teachers in securing books or materials in special interest or instructional areas. 2. Assists the Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, in complying with the mandates of federal regulations and education codes. 3. May interpret the program for handicapped pupils to parents, school faculties, and other interested groups. 4. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISOR: Under the general supervision of the Superintendent or designee. Under the immediate direction of the site level administrator while performing services at the school site. ASSIGNMENT/WORK YEAR: As assigned by the Board of Education per the MUSD/MTA Agreement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Credential: Appropriate California credential with the authorization to serve as a Psychologist. 2. Education: Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. 3. Experience: Successful classroom teaching and counseling experience is desirable. Advanced work in clinical psychology beyond level of work required for credential is desirable. THIS IS DESIGNATED A MANAGEMENT POSITION.
