The purpose of the CTE Welding Occupations Instructor is to supervise and instruct students in assigned areas of vocational training and career development in the career field of welding; establish and maintain an orderly, safe, and well-disciplined classroom learning environment; and to perform other job-related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE of the subject area(s) appropriate for the class being taught including layout and blueprint reading, welding techniques in arc welding, heli-arc, inner shield and gas welding; metal shaping and bending; shop safety; metal identification; electrode identification; current practices in industry; approved and effective techniques of student supervision, motivation, and discipline; approved and effective student testing and evaluation methods and techniques; appropriate curriculum and necessary instructional materials for assigned subject area(s). SKILLS are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. ABILITY to arc weld (flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead) using different types of electrodes, TIG weld (aluminum, stainless steel, mild steel, chrome moly steel and pipe), MIG weld, inner shield weld and resistance weld, perform metal shaping and bending, oxy-acetylene cut up to 1” plate metal, oxy-acetylene gas weld; effectively instruct students assigned in technical/vocational area(s) and career development skills; establish appropriate learning goals and objectives as well as effective lesson plans; effectively communicate orally and in writing; establish and maintain approved and effective discipline and order in a classroom or work site environment; establish criteria and evaluate students’ progress; develop and maintain a variety of administrative and control records and prepare periodic and special reports as necessary; safely and effectively operate a variety of machines and e

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required, and one (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years. Up to two (2) years of the required experience may be substituted (with additional approval) of related post high school education, apprenticeship program, or college preparation course work). EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree desired. CERTIFICATES/ CREDENTIALS/LICENSES: • Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid California Designated Subjects Vocational or Career Technical Education Teaching Credential for the subject to be taught is required. (Refer to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing pamphlet for: Career Technical Education Designated Subjects Teaching Credentials) • EL certification or equivalent such as CLAD, BCLAD, or SDAIE • Valid California driver’s license
