CERES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Psychologist Reports To: Director of Special Education Salary: Administrator Salary Schedule Classification: Administrative Management FLSA: Exempt (salaried) Work Year: 12 Months – 202 Work Days Board Ratified: 1/21/2010 BASIC FUNCTION: Applies scientific principles of learning and behavior to ameliorate school-related problems and to facilitate the learning and development of children in school. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: • Provides services to children, teachers, parents, community agencies, and the school district • Consults with school administrators concerning appropriate learning objectives for children, planning of developmental and remedial programs for pupils in regular and special school programs, and the development of educational programs and evaluation • Consults with teachers in the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate pupil learning and to overcome learning and behavior disorders • Consults with parents to assist in understanding the learning and adjustment processes of children • Consults with community agencies, such as probation departments, mental health clinics, and welfare departments, concerning pupils who are being served by such community agencies • Consults with student support services staff • Provides psychoeducational assessment and diagnosis of specific learning behavioral disabilities, including, but not limited to, case study evaluation, recommendations for remediation or placement, and periodic reevaluation of such children • Provides psychological counseling to students and recommends intervention techniques for children, teachers and parents, including parent education • Prepares assessment reports for referrals and Special Education students as necessary • Prepares project applications and reports • Provides staff assistance and inservices on remediation procedures in relation to learning and behavior • Represents district to the public regarding district functions, programs, and image • Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate • Perform crisis counseling as necessary • Prepare and maintain confidential records and files • Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge and application of: Laws that apply to providing psychological services in a school setting, and laws applying to Special Education and guidance procedures Ability to: • Apply scientific principles of learning and behavior to remedy school-related problems • Synthesize complex information • Utilize various testing techniques, materials, equipment and instruments • Work confidentially with discretion • Understand, implement, and give complex oral and written directions in English • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work • Compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling • Demonstrate computer skills • Work effectively with a wide variety of organizations and people of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds • Drive a car CREDENTIALS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Credentials: Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing service as a school psychologist Education: Master’s degree Experience: Experience in psychoeducational assessment, use and interpretation of selected diagnostic instruments PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
