Requirements / Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to:
- Possession of a high school diploma or its GED equivalent AND at least 48 college semester units earned at an accredited institution of higher learning
- Possession of a high school diploma or its GED equivalent AND the ability to obtain a passing score on the County Office of Education Paraprofessional Examination
Candidates must meet one of the two options:
Option 1:EXPERIENCE:
Paid or volunteer experience working with or serving individuals with behavioral challenges. Experience with students within the Autism spectrum is preferred..

The Educational Services Division is currently accepting applications for Paraeducator - Behavior Assistant. Paraeducator-Behavior Assistant assists teachers and other certificated personnel by performing a variety of instructional support duties to individuals or small groups of students within Special Education receiving support for behavioral or social skill development; supports student learning with a wide range of physical, emotional, intellectual, and communication challenges from the severe to the non-severe; assists in establishing and maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and meeting behavioral milestones and goals; performs assigned clerical tasks in support of a classroom.
The class of Paraeducator – Behavioral Assistant provides specialized instructional support for students with behavioral challenges, including students within the Autism spectrum, requiring a high degree of positive contact with students, in a variety of learning environments both on and off campus. Employees in this class will frequently assist with implementation of behavior intervention plans and will receive direct supervision within a framework of defined policies and procedures.
The position is located in South County Annex, Gilroy, and has a 6 hours per day, 5 days a week work schedule.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES

Following the final filing date, the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated. The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam, scheduled for 4/17/2023. Those who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in a panel interview with subject matter experts, scheduled for 4/24/2023. Based on the final scores of qualified candidates, Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list. Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities, scheduled for the week of 5/1/2023. Candidates will be invited over email to participate in examination and selection steps, using the email supplied within their Governmentjobs.com applications, or as updated by candidates in their Governmentjobs.com master profiles. Therefore, it is recommended that candidates check their email at least daily.
NOTE: Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director - Classified Personnel Services. Candidates who test successfully for placement on the eligibility list may be certified to other related positions without further testing requirements, OR job posting announcements.
