THE POSITION
Provide administrative and technical staff assistance to the principal; to assume responsibility for major portions of school operation and to assume operational charge in the absence of the principal. Exercises direct supervision over assigned site certificated and classified staff.

Knowledge of:
Curriculum, instructional approaches, strategies and materials and current trends in alternative and non traditional educational settings.
Ability to:
Receive direction from the principal. Manage effectively; organize, direct, and supervise all the responsibilities delegated by the principal. In addition, the candidate must possess skills for effectively working in a cooperative manner with certificated and classified staff.
Goal Setting & Mission Statement—Ability to define and prioritize specific goals and objectives and to develop and communicate the school district’s mission statement effectively to the public and staff.
Team Building—Ability to work with people in an effective manner, building high morale, cohesiveness, and group commitments to goals and objectives.
Commitment to Task—Ability to sustain strong commitment and maximum effort to carry out specific courses of action for the school program, regardless of the effort and time necessary.
Communication—Ability to clearly present information, orally and in writing, in language that is effective and understandable in positive and negative circumstances.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Successful secondary school teaching experience. School administrative experience is desired.
Master’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in education with an emphasis in educational administration or a related field.
Possession of a California Administrative Services Credential authorizing administrative services at the secondary school level.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities:
In cooperation with principal and staff, the assistant principal must guide, direct and coordinate the total educational program of the school.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Day to day operations of the school programs and facilities; discipline / attendance of students; supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified staff; analysis of data including discipline and academic assessments.
Interpersonal Relationships:
Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with parents, organizations and the community; serve as spokesperson for the school to people both within and outside the school and district organization.
Maintain a high level of visibility with the middle school community.
Foster sound interpersonal relationships among staff, students, community, and the Administration. Ability to adjust school’s program / procedures to meet individual student’s needs.
Administration:
Assist the principal in decision-making and implementation of policies that affect the school’s operation. To be responsible for implementing District policy in the care and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The present salary range is $94,795 up to $112,681 for 206 days. The Coronado Unified School District provides a generous employee benefit package (medical, dental, vision, life insurance and long term disability insurance) with optional dependent coverage available. Placement on the salary range is negotiable based on experience.

SELECTION PROCESS

Appointment is contingent on the ability to provide verification of authorization to work in the United States at the time of employment, successful completion of a pre-placement medical examination with a drug screen, fingerprint screen and proof of a negative tuberculosis skin test.
