Title: Special Education Paraeducator -HighTech LA
Location: Van Nuys, CA

Job Overview
Under the direction of the Special Education teacher, the Special Education Paraeducator will provide support to student(s) of disability. The aide will implement comprehensive positive behavioral support plans and effective behavior management strategies, deliver instruction, participate as a member of the educational team, and assist in designing and implementing all components of the student's individual program. The Special Education Paraeducator will dually report to Special Education and School Leadership team.
Essential Functions
• Uphold and enforce school rules and policies
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher to provide access to class activities
• Supervise students throughout the school day in classrooms, during educational activities, and during nutrient and lunch.
• Assist teacher in classroom instruction and behavior support
• Implement Behavior Support Plan and behavior strategies
• Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraint
• Work with students having special needs and/or aggressive behaviors (i.e. biting, kicking, hitting, emotional outbursts, etc.)
• Appropriately manage student behavior and guide student toward more acceptable social behaviors
• Model appropriate behavioral interventions
• Confer with teacher(s) on a regular basis to assist in evaluation of student progress and/or implementation of IEP goals and objectives
• Assist with student assessments as appropriate
• Maintain appropriate documentation, records, and reports
• Participate in developing data collection systems and monitor data collection to ensure the success of academic and behavior plans
• Maintain confidentiality of students and families as mandated by district, state and federal regulations
• Participate in school and regional trainings, in-services, and meetings
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and parents
• Communicate effectively in oral and written form
• Assist in feeding
• Assists student with all aspects of toileting which may include diapering and lifting on and off the toilet, changing tables, and mats.
• Assists with the use of mobility equipment such as leg braces, walkers, mobile standers, tricycles, and wheelchairs.
• Helps student use books, classroom materials, and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or Administrator.
Qualifications and Desired Characteristics
• High school diploma required
• Two years of college (48 units),BA highly preferred
• Fingerprint &TB clearance
• Available to work Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM- 4:00 PM when school is in session
• Comfortable with high school math (up to an Algebra 2 level)
• First aid and CPR preferred
• Knowledge of appropriate behavior management strategies.
• Sufficient strength to safely lift and carry objects and/or assist in lifting students of varying weights.
