TITLE OF POSITION:                       MAINTENANCE WORKER - GENERAL

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the job of "Maintenance Worker - General" performs semi-skilled duties while maintaining facilities in a safe operating condition; maintaining a preventive program; and resolving immediate safety concerns. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Repairs equipment and facility components such as fencing, sidewalks, roofing, walls, etc., for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe operating condition.
  • Installs playground equipment for the purpose of providing a safe playing environment for children.
  • Inspects playground equipment, roof drainage, vehicles, etc., for the purpose of providing an effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Responds to emergency situations involving facility damage, playground equipment, roof leaks, etc., for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Keeps simple records accurately on a variety of activities including cost estimates, supply needs, etc. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • May perform special groundskeeping or cleaning duties.
  • Transports material, furnishings, equipment, supplies, waste materials, etc., to deliver or remove items from school and job sites, and special event functions.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and other district staff.
  • Work independently and on schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience Required: Prior job related experience.  Good work history, including one year of full-time experience in general building maintenance or construction.
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills of operating hand and power tools used in general maintenance functions.  Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general maintenance functions, safety practices.  Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/climbing/ balancing/stooping/kneeling/crouching/-crawling/reaching/handling/fingering/ talking/hearing ordinary conversations, near and far visual acuity/color vision.  Abilities to learn new skills such as rough carpentry, lock repair, general building repair and gardening work; learn and use floor polishing, scrubbing, sprayers and other similar power equipment; and maintain high standards of workmanship. Abilities to stand and walk for extended periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Training Required: Proficiency with skills of the trade.
  • Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:  Valid driver's license and evidence of insurability, TB test clearance and criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
