Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent Verification of Appropriate training as a Medical Assistant as indicated in the Business and Professions Code Medical Practices Act, Sections 2069 and 2070 Credentials and/or Skills: Valid First Aid and CPR certificate issued by an authorized agency Medical Assistant Certificate issued by an authorized agency Bilingual Spanish or Hmong preferred Experience: At least 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a school district or 2 years working in the medical field, and possessing the required education and certifications. Summary of the Position: Under the direct supervision of the District School Nurse, the Medical Assistant will assist in maintaining student medical records, administer medication, provide First Aid to students and staff, and perform other duties as assigned. Essential Duties: Assist the District School Nurse in duties as assigned, including but not limited to: Administer First Aid to students and staff Maintain student medical records and confidentiality of students’ health status. Administer medication to students under the direction of the District School Nurse. Assist with the conducting of hearing and vision screenings. Assist with the conducting of height and weight screenings. Assist with exclusion letters for students with incomplete immunization records. Assist with monitoring of glucose levels of diabetic students. Enter student data into a computer, student health records, etc. Communicate with parents on matters pertaining to illness, injury or absences. Perform other duties as assigned, by immediate supervisor. Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to work harmoniously with students, staff and parents. Ability to follow oral and written instruction. Knowledge of medical terminology used in school districts. Knowledge of current regulations regarding student immunizations, medication distribution, etc. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff, students and parents. Physical Requirements: See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects up to 150 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Work Environment: Employees in this position will be required to work indoors in a medical office environment and/or outdoors consisting of tables, chairs, orthopedic devices and playground equipment; come in direct contact with students, parents, district staff and the public. Duty Days / Hours: 180 days per year Monday – Friday 6 hours per day
