The Long Beach Community College District is seeking a qualified individual for our current opportunities as a Help Desk Support Specialists in Information Technology Services (ITS). This is a grant-funded position expected to end 11/29/2024. Help Desk Support Specialists are first tier technical support for LBCC faculty & staff. Help Desk Support Specialists field a wide range of calls, emails, and walk-up support and collaborate with ITS colleagues to resolve issues. Help Desk Support Specialists must possess excellent customer service and clear communication skills and have a technical background. Duties

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

Under general direction, deliver technical customer support over the phone and/or in person; identify, troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of technical computer hardware and software, network, audiovisual/Smart Classroom and telephone related problems. Provide support for all Instructional and Information Technology products and services including the Instructional Technology Development Center, Distance Learning and Instructional Media Production Services. Support may include answering questions, troubleshooting problems, taking requests for service and deliveries, training or instructing customers regarding software or hardware functionality, and communicating policy. Determines the most effective manner to resolve client's technical issue. Engages in research and in-depth troubleshooting to resolve technical issues. Consults with appropriate staff in IITS when necessary.

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

 

Education, Training and Experience:

 

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent with college-level course work in communication technology and computer operations and applications and two years of experience in the operation of a computer help desk service which involves providing user support service and analyzing and solving computer hardware, software, network and applications problems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

May require a valid driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance policy.

 

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

• If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.

An Online Written Test or Oral Panel Interview may be used to assess applicant qualifications. Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.

 

The qualified candidates will be placed on an unranked list. Seniority points for internal existing LBCC employees and points for Veteran's credit will not be added. The unranked list will be submitted to the hiring authority for consideration.
