Purpose
The job of Director - District & School Support is done for the purpose/s of planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing district improvement; providing leadership and support in the areas of school and district improvement, curriculum, and professional development; providing information and serving as a resource to others; maintaining a high level of quality and responsiveness; and serving as a member of the leadership team.
This job reports to the Assigned Administrator/Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Assists sites and districts in utilizing data, and identifying curriculum resources and professional development needs when requested for the purpose of integrating curriculum, increasing and sustaining student achievement, and identifying factors contributing to achievement gaps.
- Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g. school district administrators, SCOE, auditors, public agencies, community members, state and federal departments of education, etc.) for the purpose of implementing, maintaining and improving services and programs/grants, and/or responding to requests for information.
- Compiles and analyzes data from a variety of sources (e.g. school districts' staff, public agencies, grants, various reports, etc.) for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with organization policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components.
- Designs services and facilitates program improvements (e.g. training, materials, instructional rounds, networks in school districts and across county, etc.) for the purpose of implementing professional development program activities that address training needs of the District.
- Evaluates the overall curriculum, instruction, programs and instructional materials for the County office programs and districts as requested for the purpose of assuring programs, materials, and standards maintain a high level of quality and responsiveness to improving student outcomes.
- Interprets federal and state regulations for the purpose of evaluating compliance requirements, communicating to others as needed, and developing/modifying/implementing policies and procedures based on the regulations.
- Monitors budget, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded,and expenses are within budget limits and in compliance with state, federal, county and grant requirements.
- Organizes, spearheads and/or participates in meetings, workshops, seminars and management teams as directed for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information related to programs, and providing regular communications to counties, districts, schools and appropriate personnel in an effort to improve student outcomes.
- Performs personnel administrative functions for assigned classified staff (e.g. interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, disciplining, recommending termination or transfers, providing professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing and ensuring department/program outcomes are achieved.
- Prepares and maintains a wide variety of documents, narrative and statistical reports, and files (e.g. contracts with external agencies for assigned programs, audits, grants for state and federal programs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
- Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from internal and external sources for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
- Works strategically with schools and districts for the purpose of providing direct or support services for planning, program development, training programs and instructional activities.

Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: current trends and best practices within curriculum, instruction and assessment; concepts of professional growth; education code; federal and state grants management; pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; and accounting/bookkeeping principles.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 10% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education Masters degree in job-related area.
Equivalency Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university OR bachelor’s degree in education and five years’ experience in an administrative position.
The stated education and experience requirements are the preferred minimum qualifications for this job. However, relevant experience to substitute for the education requirement and relevant education, certificates and/or licenses to substitute for the experience requirement may be allowed. Experience in a school administrative position is required.
