Requirements / Qualifications

BASIC FUNCTION: Perform specialized and complex professional work in the development, control and analysis of assigned District budgets; develop and implement improved budget procedures; coordinate District-wide budgetary functions.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE OF: General accounting, budget and business functions of a school district. Data processing applications related to budget and accounting functions. Preparation, review and control of assigned budgets. Calculate salaries, benefits and enrollment allocations. Public agency budget and accounting procedures including factors impacting on income and expenditures. Preparation of financial statements and comprehensive budget reports. Oral and written communication skills. Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws. Basic research methods. ABILITY TO: Perform specialized and complex professional work in the development, control and analysis of assigned District budgets. Develop and implement improved budget procedures. Learn federal and State laws applicable to school finance. Perform research, data collection and statistical analysis. Prepare reports and financial documentation. Calculate, develop, prepare and maintain assigned budgets. Plan and organize work in order to meet established timelines. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports. Detect and correct errors or omissions. Deal with staff and members of the community seeking budget information. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by college-level course work in accounting, finance or closely related field and increasingly responsible experience. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
