FLSA Status: Nonexempt Reports to: Special Education Teacher Recognized and respected as an integral part of The Center For Learning Unlimited’s professional team, the paraprofessional is responsible for assisting the teacher(s) with classroom responsibilities. Under the supervision of a qualified teacher, this role helps to prepare learning materials, assist in instructing individuals and small groups of students, and works one-on-one with students.

A Para Educator in this role performs any combination of following instructional tasks to assist teaching staff in Lower, Middle, Upper School, or Personal Milestones programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists Teacher with Lesson & Classroom Preparation and Reinforcement of Lessons
  • Assists with lunch, snack, and clean up duties.
  • Assists teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids (e.g., bibliographies, charts, and graphs).
  • Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques (e.g., discussion, supervised role playing).
  • Guides independent study, enrichment, or remedial work setup assigned by teacher.
  • Leads and facilitates various forms of oral communication with students (e.g., reading aloud, listening to students read).
  • Communicates with teacher regularly regarding any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce concepts.
  • Assists Teacher with Record Keeping
  • Administers exams and tests as instructed by teacher.
  • Administers, scores, and records baseline testing, student inventories, and coursework under teacher supervision.
  • If assigned as a 1:1 paraprofessional, the 1:1 attendance form will be completed accurately and submitted for teacher review/signature on the last instructional day of the month.
  • Completion and submission of Incident Reports within 24hours .
  • Supervision of Students
  • Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play lunch periods, during field trips, morning arrival to classroom, and school dismissal.
  • Attends School Trainings

Attends weekly and August in-service trainings.

 

Requirements / Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: • Minimum of a two year community college experience with an AA degree preferred. • Minimum of two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Knowledge Requirements: • Must demonstrate intermediate-level computer skill competency, as well as knowledge of various software packages (i.e. MS Office suite). • Must demonstrate intermediate-level (or above) English grammar and mathematics competencies Professional Skill Requirements & Expectations: • Ability to be flexible and work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment • Ability to produce high-quality work efficiently and on-time, • Proven ability to work independently and as a team member in a dynamic environment • Ability to interface with multiple levels of administration and teaching staff • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
