Job Description and Duties

Knowledge and understanding of social and emotional learning (SEL) and student emotional, behavioral, and mental health and the California School Climate, Health, and Learning Surveys (CalSCHLS); utilizing CalSCHLS data to drive the development and implementation of student programs. Experience in implementing SEL and/or expanding student mental health in a school or local educational agency (LEA) within the Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS). Experience working with state agencies, LEAs, professional organizations, and other educational partners.

Provides programming for SEL professional development and provides technical assistance to support the CalSCHLS (identified as the California Healthy Kids Survey in Senate Bill 129). Stays current on research, educational trends, policies, national and statewide efforts pertaining to SEL; acts as the division SEL lead; builds local capacity in the statewide implementation of the California Department of Education’s Transformative-SEL competencies and resources; provides technical assistance and responds to inquiries for SEL; maintains/updates SEL web pages and web resources; compiles and disseminates best practices, resources, guidance on SEL through monthly newsletter, listserv, and social media; and builds collaborative partnerships with internal and external partners to support SEL implementation and expansion in the state.

Working Conditions

This position is headquartered in Sacramento, and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

Describe your experience in implementing programs to support SEL;

• Implementation of CalSCHLS; guiding schools to develop and implement student support programs based on CalSCHLS data; and in implementing SEL and other mental health programs within the MTSS.

• Describe experiences of effective collaboration with state agencies, LEAs, professional organizations, advocacy groups, and other educational partners;

• Leading and presenting to large groups and presenting complex topics related to SEL, best practices, and any laws and policies related to the emotional health of students;

• Working individually, on a team, and with diverse groups.
