VICTOR VALLEY UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: CAMPUS SECURITY ASSISTANT BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, patrol and monitor an assigned campus to maintain order, safety and security; assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Patrol and monitor an assigned campus to maintain order and security; monitor student locker rooms, lunch areas, walkways, restrooms and parking lots and sporting events including crowd control.. E Escort students to office for disciplinary action as necessary; perform visual and locker search for alcohol, weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia and report to appropriate authorities according to established procedures; escort students to lock-out as necessary. E Enforce school and District rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff and property; report unusual activities or unauthorized persons on campus to appropriate personnel. E Observe students during passing periods between classes, lunch and break periods; assure timely return of students to class. E Prevent student conflicts and fights according to established guidelines; intervene as necessary; advise students of consequences of rules are violated. E Monitor students boarding school buses; assure student cooperation according to school and District rules and regulations. E Operate a two-way radio to communicate with school office and other security personnel; drive a vehicle to transport students home as directed. E Prevent illegal parking and loitering on school grounds according to established procedures. Maintain positive relationships with students, staff and community; communicate with students and staff to provide and receive information regarding student activities. Monitor students assigned to in-house suspension, after school detention and lock-out periods; assist with roll call and preparation of homework as directed. Determine need for writing referrals and write referrals according to established guidelines. Maintain in-school suspension and detention notices, lock-out files and other related logs and reports. Assist other Campus Security Assistants in adjacent areas. Transport students home as directed. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic methods of individual and group supervision. Basic interests, attitudes and emotional development of adolescents. Basic laws regarding the supervision, search and detention of students. Skills utilized to maintain positive relationships with students and adults. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Health and safety regulations. Basic first aid. Basic record-keeping and incident reporting techniques. ABILITY TO: Patrol and monitor an assigned campus to maintain order and security in a high school setting. Assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations. Learn, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Perform duties with patience, tact and good judgment and within established guidelines. Learn District organization, operations, policies and objectives. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action. Maintain routine records and reports as assigned. Operate a two-way radio. Understand written and oral instructions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and experience in the supervision of junior or high school students. Certification of the completion of SB1626 training is preferred. Applicants who do not possess this certification shall complete this training during their first six months of employment by attending training provided by the District. This training requirement also pertains to substitute employees. WORKING CONDITIONS: Perform majority of duties outdoors. Position requires standing for long periods of time, running, climbing stairs and walking over large areas. Incumbents may be exposed to adverse weather conditions and anti-social behavior.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any equivalent to graduation from high school and experience in the supervision of junior or high school students. Certification of the completion of SB1626 training is preferred. Applicants who do not possess this certification shall complete this training during the first six months of employment. This training requirement also pertains to substitute employees.
