Currently testing for an eligibility list at this time which will be used to fill vacancies for up to one year. Definition To perform skilled mechanical and electrical work in repair, inspection, servicing, installation and alteration of District heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems and related equipment and facilities; to perform diagnostic testing on equipment; and to perform a variety of skilled duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.

OXNARD SCHOOL DISTRICT PERSO A) BP MAINTENANCE WORKER II/ROOFER Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. DEFINITION To perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance work in the general maintenance, to repair and construction of District facilities and equipment; to perform roofing work including, repair, alteration and installation of various roofing surfaces; operate tools and equipment; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents in the Maintenance Worker II classification perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance, construction and repair of district facilities and equipment, including roofing. Incumbents in the Maintenance Worker I classification perform routine unskilled to semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on district facilities and equipment. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from the Maintenance Manager and the Director of Facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS:--Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essential Functions: 1. Perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic trades such as carpentry, welding, plumbing and heating, electrical, masonry, glazing, roofing and locksmithing. 2. Read and interpret a variety of blueprints, sketches, diagrams and related materials to determine work required. 3. Perform a variety of gas and arc welding work; fabricate, install and repair playground equipment, fencing, gates and other equipment. 4. Perform a variety of glazing work; install and repair window glass; repair window leaks; inspect roofs on District buildings and associated facilities to determine condition and to repair; apply water proofing materials above and below the roof and foundation; install compost foams and rubber materials for water proofing. 5. Construct, install, maintain and repair roofs, rain gutters, signs/sign posts, and Venetian blinds, furniture, cabinets, shelving, bulletin boards, small gas engines and related items; prepare surfaces and paint as necessary. 6. May install, repair and maintain doors, locks, closures, and other door hardware. 7. Remove, repair or install flooring materials including linoleum or floor tiles; repair or replace wall tiles, acoustical panel and ceiling tiles. 8. Perform a variety of sheet metal work to include the fabrication, installation and repair of galvanized gutters, down spouts, splash panels and flashing, ducts, lockers and storage cabinets; inspect gutters and drains annually and clean as needed. 9. Install, maintain and repair plumbing systems including restroom facility fixtures; repair sinks, and drinking fountains; install and repair flag poles. 10. Install and repair electrical outlets, switches, circuit breakers, relays, diffusers and lighting fixtures. 11. Perform a variety of masonry work involving plaster, stucco and concrete; form, pour, shape and finish concrete. 12. Operate and perform operator's maintenance on a district vehicle; operate a variety of tools and equipment related to assigned function to include saws, drill presses, grinders, and woodworking machinery. Essential Functions Continued: 13. Perform general clean up at job site; observe and implement proper safety practices. 14. Provide for proper materials as necessary to accomplish work orders; prepare and maintain records including labor, materials and work orders completed; prepare reports as required. 15. Provide assistance in various other areas of maintenance as required; perform semi-skilled to skilled maintenance repair and construction work in the basic trades. 16. Provide work direction and guidance to maintenance worker I personnel as needed. 17. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to work orders, labor and materials. 18. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Operational characteristics of equipment and materials used in maintenance trades. Methods and techniques of performing maintenance and repair duties in a variety of trade areas. Methods, materials, equipment and techniques used in roofing inspections and repair. Water proofing techniques. Principles of lead supervision and training. Methods and techniques of storing equipment, materials and supplies. Methods and techniques of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Methods and techniques of evaluating work to be performed. Principles and procedures of record-keeping. Health and safety regulations. Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, code and regulations. Ability to: Perform journey level maintenance duties in a variety of trade areas. Safely use a variety of tools and machines utilized in the basic trade. Operate a variety of tools and equipment related to assigned function including saws, drill presses, grinders and welding Work from blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and specifications. Install, repair or replace doors, windows, floor, wall and ceiling tile. Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding and other unstable surfaces. Inspect roof surfaces and determine needed repairs Perform a variety of skilled maintenance roofing work. Provide information and assistance to parents, the general public and other staff members in a helpful, courteous and timely manner. Lift up to 100 lbs. Maintain confidentiality of information obtained during the course of work. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Work independently with limited supervision. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines in an environment with constantly changing priorities. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Operate and perform operator's maintenance on a District vehicle. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Follow good health and safety principles and practices. Experience and Training Guidelines Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible maintenance and facilities repair experience. Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. License of Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental Conditions: Shop environment; subject to traveling from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions; work at heights on scaffolding or ladders. Physical Conditions: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for lifting, climbing, crawling; work or inspect in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time; walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; work on slippery or uneven surfaces, operating motorized equipment or vehicles, bending, stooping, kneeling; near visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone; lift horizontally and vertically.
