Provides a comprehensive counseling and guidance program to high school students; consults and collaborates with administrators, teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provides support to all educational programs. The Educational Services Department is pleased to share the following MUSD Summer School information with you. This information is provided to you so that you may plan accordingly should you choose to apply for a position in one of Monrovia’s summer programs. Position specific information - including available positions, application process, and pay rates - will be shared by Human Resources in subsequent communications. Summer School Sites: Monrovia High School Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School Mayflower Elementary School Monroe Elementary School Bradoaks Elementary School Monrovia Community Adult School Summer School Dates: Summer sessions will run on a modified 4-day school week, with some exceptions made for the various holidays that concur in June and July. Traditional Summer Session (Elementary, Middle, & High School): June 12, 2023 - July 20, 2023 Extended School Year [ESY] (Elementary, Middle, & High School): June 12, 2023 - July 14, 2023 Special Education Adult Transition Program (ATP): June 12, 2023 - July 14, 2023 Adult School Session: June 9, 2023 - June 30, 2023 Summer Holidays (All programs): Juneteenth: Observed June 19, 2023 Independence Day: Observed July 3 and July 4, 2023 Traditional Summer Session & ESY Non-School Days: Friday, June 16, 2023 Friday, June 30, 2023 Friday, July 21, 2023 Summer School Hours of Operation: High School: 8:30am - 2:00pm Middle School: 8:00am - 12:30pm Elementary School: 8:00am - 12:30pm ESY - Elementary: 9:00am - 12:15pm

TITLE: COUNSELOR – HIGH SCHOOL
QUALIFICATIONS: A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing service as a school counselor; five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
JOB GOAL: Assist pupils in making social adjustments and determining curricular programs and provide assistance in career planning and education subsequent to graduation.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement the school counseling and guidance program curriculum and interpret guidance programs to students, staff and community.
• Program and make adjustments in courses, as necessary, for new and continuing pupils in order to meet graduation requirements and goals.
• Confer with parents by telephone or in person regarding problems with individual pupils and serve as liaison between parents and teachers to facilitate resolutions.
• Counsel pupils with personal, social and behavioral problems to accomplish improvement and achieve academic success.
• Advise pupils relative to college, vocational or other post-high school plans.
• Refer students and their parents to appropriate specialist, special programs or outside agencies.
• Write letters of recommendation for college admission purposes or to potential employers and military service personnel for both current and past students.
• Initiate referrals to Pupil Services concerning home teacher, placement in special education or for special evaluation and counseling.
• Monitor current class enrollment count to achieve balance between classes where possible.
• Maintain statistics necessary for annual reports, projected enrollment, etc.
• Advise students concerning scholarships and required admission tests.
• Assist in planning the master schedule each semester, utilizing staff and facilities in implementation of curriculum offerings.
• Consult and collaborate with administrators, teachers, staff and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students.
• Counsel students regarding attendance and make recommendations to SARB.
• Work with outside agencies; such as, Probation Department, counseling services and Welfare Department.
• Attend professional meetings, school functions and public meetings as a representative of the school or guidance department.
• Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
• Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary or assigned.
• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve attitude and learning problems.
• Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
