OVERVIEW: San Diego Unified School District, the second largest district in California and one of the top largest urban school districts in the United States, is seeking a Program Manager, School in the Park. School in the Park is a multi-visit museum program that blends formal and informal learning by utilizing the rich resources of museums and educational institutions in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. The program is designed with standards-based curriculum to integrate what is learned at school with authentic learning connections from the Park institutions. School in the Park significantly alters the “normal” educational setting and methodologies for students and teachers by moving “school” into the larger community. School in the Park is a program designed to support and enhance student learning and achievement for select City Heights Elementary and Middle Schools. The program provides enriching, authentic learning experiences for students, and a gateway to the broader culture through the resources at Balboa Park. BASIC FUNCTION: The Program Manager, School in the Park will plan, organize, develop, and implement the School in the Park program; provide leadership for implementing the program with participating schools; coordinate in-service courses/workshops and other teacher development activities for participating schools for improvements to curriculum, instructional methods, and pupil achievement; supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of School in the Park personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination equivalent to a master’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in educational administration, instructional improvement programs or developing core/integrated curriculum programs. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license. Possession of Administrative Services Credential or willingness to concurrently earn this credential through participation in an administrative internship credential program while in the assignment. An administrative certificate, credential, permit, or proof of eligibility for an administrative intern permit from an approved university must be on file with the Human Resource Services Division prior to starting the assignment.
