JOB DESCRIPTION

 

CUSTODIAN

 

Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of "Custodian" is done for the purpose/s of under supervision maintaining assigned areas of buildings in a clean, sanitary and safe condition; and to do related work as required.

Essential Job Functions:

*       Maintains facilities (i.e. sweeps, cleans, waxes, polishes floors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.

*       Responsible for locking and unlocking buildings and gates.

*       Cleans school facilities (i.e. classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, hallways, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.

*       Informs site personnel and head custodian for the purpose of providing information regarding proper maintenance of facilities.

*       Operates scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaner and other related custodial equipment.

Other Job Functions:

*       Assists in cleaning and caring for grounds around buildings; moves and arranges furniture.

*       Performs such duties as replacing light bulbs, unplugging plumbing and assisting in maintenance projects.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

*       Experience Required: One year of prior job related experience in school or institutional setting.

*       Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.

Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies, safe work practices, including preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors and walls.

Abilities to follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, adjust to flexible assignments often with short notice, and communicate with students, staff and the public.  Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency and perform heavy physical labor.

*       Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

*       Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid Driver's License and evidence of
insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and current TB clearance.
