Job Summary
Job Summary
Under the clinical supervision of the school/public health nurse, provide specialized health care and assist the nurse in monitoring the mental and physical health conditions of students. Assist the classroom teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of medically fragile and severely handicapped special education students, ages birth - 22; assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s); provide routine clerical support.
Requirements / Qualifications
Required: -High school diploma or equivalent. -One year experience providing patient care in a health-care profession, OR one year experience working with special education students. -An AA degree (or equivalent) or passage of proficiency examination in compliance with Education Code and No Child Left Behind Act. -First Aid and CPR Certification (provided by SLOCOE) must be obtained within 130 days of employment. -Incumbents must obtain specialized health care training given by the school/public health nurse within 90 days of employment. Desired: -Experience working with special education students in an organized setting. -Emergency Medical Technician license.
All applicants must meet paraprofessional proficiency requirements (48 semester units, AA degree or higher, passage of CBEST test, or proof of NCLB/ESSA compliance). If needed, applicants may take the ESSA Paraprofessional Proficiency exam at the SLOCOE Office. This recruitment serves to fill a current vacancy and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies within 6 months. The current opening is located at Lillian Larson Elementary School in San Miguel in the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program.
The position is an 8.50 hours per day opportunity. The 30 minutes of work beyond the standard 8-hour workday will be paid daily overtime. The pay for this half-hour will be paid at 1.5 times the employee's regular rate of pay.
