JOB SUMMARY Under direction, monitor budgets, and maintain fiscal, personnel, reporting, and budgeting information for the program(s) to which assigned; prepare periodic financial reports, income and cost analysis; compile and reconcile accounts.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education, training, and/or experiences which demonstrates ability to perform the required duties. A typical qualifying background would include graduation from high school, or equivalent, some college level course work in accounting principles and two years of increasingly responsible fiscal clerical experience in accounting, budgeting, and analysis, preferably in a school district.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Prepare cost analysis and financial reports for special programs; monitor, audit, and update budgets, income, and expenditures for special programs. Answer telephone inquiries concerning special programs. Compile, organize, and reconcile financial data. Check and review data for errors and make appropriate corrections according to established procedures. Prepare necessary materials as requested by program directors. Prepare position requisitions and check for funds. Attend workshops and meetings. Participate in preparation of special program budgets. Analyze income and expenditure patterns and prepare profit/loss statements. Assist in preparing state and federal reports and invoices for payment. Coordinate with personnel and payroll departments to ensure accuracy in payroll costs. Set up and maintain filing systems. Operate a variety of office machines and equipment such as calculator, typewriter, copier, computer and/or microcomputer and related software. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Methods and procedures used to forecast, budget, and account for program costs and income; principles and practices of bookkeeping, general accounting, and invoice auditing, including the preparation of financial statements and reports; provisions of laws and rules pertaining to business accounting, especially as it relates to school programs; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation; modern office procedures and practices including computerized accounting systems and spread sheets, preferably Excel or Quattro. Operation of a variety of office machines and equipment, including typewriter, computers, ten-key, etc. Letter and report writing, and filing systems.
Ability to:
Quickly learn to interpret, apply, and explain pertinent laws, procedures, and regulations related to state and federal funding. Function accurately, independently, and coordinate and prioritize workload; learn to complete complex State and federal reports required for school finance; compile accurate statistics and prepare detailed reports; analyze financial documents and budgets; utilize computers to produce worksheets and reports; interpret, apply, and explain legal requirements, guidelines, and procedures to others; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others; accurately type reports and memos containing statistical data.LICENSE
Must possess a valid California driver's license and the ability to qualify, and maintain qualification for insurance coverage.PHYSICAL ABILITY
The selected candidate must be able to perform the duties of a rigorous work schedule. The employee is regularly required to sit. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The selected candidate must pass a physical examination and drug screen.

The district has approximately 16,600 students, plus approximately 800 preschool students, with 26 schools (6 middle schools, 19 elementary schools and 1 preschool). The District is largely urban in nature with some rural areas. Regardless of what our employees’ needs are, we meet them with the personalized attention only a caring school district can provide.
