BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of a Principal, perform a variety of clerical duties related to attendance accounting and record-keeping; contact parents and guardians to verify excused and unexcused absences; operate a computer and assigned student information system to enter and update attendance data.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Attendance Assistant classification performs a variety of clerical duties related to attendance accounting and record-keeping at elementary school sites. The Senior Attendance Assistant classification is assigned to a secondary school site with period-by-period attendance. In addition, the Senior Attendance Assistant is responsible for preparing and submitting Average Daily Attendance (ADA) reports for the assigned secondary school site.



REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Process and verify student absence information from parents, teachers and others; issue admittance forms to students who are tardy or are returning after an absence; utilize a computer, scanner and assigned student information system to scan or input attendance documents and related data.

Communicate with students, parents, staff and outside agencies regarding District attendance policies, procedures, rules and regulations; place and receive phone calls and receive notes regarding student absences.

Maintain accurate records, files and folders related to student attendance.

Refer serious attendance problems to appropriate personnel in accordance with established procedures; assist in identifying and resolving problems of students with frequent absenteeism.

Answer telephones and greet visitors; respond to general questions.

Operate a variety of office equipment including a fax machine, copier and typewriter; drive vehicle to school sites as assigned by the position.

Participate in various school office functions such as student registration and enrollment as assigned; perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing and maintaining school records.

OTHER DUTIES:

Attend a variety of in-service trainings and meetings as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.



INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or equivalent and one (1) year of clerical experience involving record-keeping. Type or input data at thirty (30) net words per minute from clear copy.  A typing test will not be given. Demonstrated proficiency will be expected during the probationary period for this classification. 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Some positions in this classification may be required to travel to various school sites.
