THE MERIT SYSTEM AND THE PERSONNEL COMMISSION The San Mateo County Office of Education has utilized the Merit System since 1966 to ensure that classified employees are selected, promoted and retained without favoritism or prejudice. The Personnel Commission oversees a Civil Service (Merit) System of personnel management for San Mateo County Office of Education employees. Job Summary
Under the direction of an assigned Integrated Technology Director or Manager, set up and adjust audio-visual equipment and online media connections for meetings and conference events; manage, train and provide technical assistance to media users to access web-based applications and communication tools used for remote meetings, hybrid meetings, teleconferencing, and presentations; provide recommendations and coordinate potential vendor solution relationships. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist County Office staff and other professional development trainers and meeting hosts in the use of a variety of audio-visual equipment, software, and web-based applications; provide all levels of audio-visual support, from one person conferencing to support for large-scale meetings, conferences and hybrid events. Perform user administration activities and provide training for all web-based applications for communications tools, event management systems, and room reservation platforms. Coordinate and catalog the storage of digital files for all web-based audio and visual communications tools Operate a variety of audio-visual equipment including remote-control devices, laptops, cameras, digital video recorders, projectors, amplifiers, microphones and speakers; integrate audio-visual devices into the SMCOE network and other audio-visual systems. Establish and maintain connections for audio and video conferencing as required; troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and network integration failures, sometimes when meetings are in progress. Reserve media and equipment for scheduled events; ensure audio-visual equipment, peripherals, tools and cables are available for scheduled events; research and recommend audio/visual presentation options, and work with County Office staff to plan for and arrange specialized requests. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience providing the job knowledge, skills, and ability for successful job performance will be considered for positions in this classification. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: EDUCATION: Graduation from high school supplemented by coursework in communications, multimedia or related field; and EXPERIENCE: Two years of direct experience working with audio-visual and multimedia equipment in a business or educational setting. WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations. Seeing to view a computer monitor and read a variety of materials. Sitting for extended periods of time. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects as assigned by position. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. EXAMINATION PROCESS: The examination process for this classification may consist of: 1. A review of required completed application; and. 2. An oral board examination conducted virtually via Zoom (Tentative Date: January 17, 2023).
BENEFITS: Placement on salary schedule. If a medical plan is selected, the employee will receive a contribution of $1,175.00/month toward the selected medical plan (through CalPERS), Delta Dental, and Life Insurance. The employee pays the balance of their health premiums from their gross earnings on a pre-tax basis. If a medical plan is not selected, employees will receive a contribution of $300.00/month toward single coverage for Delta Dental, and Life Insurance. A vision plan (VSP) is also available. Employees pay the worker contribution to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). This position is represented by California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter No. 789. Pursuant to Article 2 of the CSEA #789 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the County Office shall deduct in accordance with the CSEA dues and fees schedule from the wages of all employees.
