Under general supervision performs clerical functions in the school library and computer center. Assist students with skills related to library media center. Coordinate library and media services to best meet student and staff needs, keep inventory of textbooks, and distribute to students, staff, and other sites and assist with site testing coordinator.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
1. Receive and process textbooks, library books, periodicals, instructional materials and media.
2. Maintain an automated circulation and distribution system.
3. Prepare and maintain a variety of files and records, including shelf and storage lists and records, catalogue cards, and other files and records.
4. Collect and circulate textbooks, library books, periodicals and instructional media pertaining to specific subject matter areas.
5. Monitor student behavior.
6. Provide direction and assistance to student library assistants and parent volunteers.
7. Develop interest center displays.
8. Performs a variety of functions in maintaining a neat and orderly library media center environment.
9. Prepare requisitions and orders for textbooks, library books and instructional materials.
10. Repair and mend damaged books and other instructional material.
11. Prepares book cards, book lists, bibliographies, memoranda, and other similar materials using both manual and automated processes.
12. Maintain simple cash receipt records.
13. Perform library inventory process, assist other sites as needed.
14. Bar code new books and maintain up-to-date records on the Winnebago circulation program of student circulation, card catalog and inventory.
15. Bar code, distribute, bill and inventory all textbooks.
16. Instruct aides in the use of the Winnebago and adaptive current software program for textbook circulation.
17. Monitor student use of the computer lab.
18. Coordinate scheduling of class computer lab use.
19. Assist students and staff in computer applications. This would include, but not be limited to: tower and network procedures, word processing and research data bases.
20. Facilitate the review of new technology and preview software for consideration by Technology Committee.
21. Maintain physical facilities and coordinate repair of equipment.
22. Coordinate and provide before and after school student assistance in the library and the computer lab.
23. Perform testing duties as the assistant text site coordinator, receive and distribute test site materials, check and reconcile materials, proctor make-up tests under supervision. Track students who need to complete tests. Return materials to testing center.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
• Modern office methods, practices, and equipment, including micro-computers and computer terminals.
• English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Library media center classification systems.
• Basic arithmetical concepts.
• Student behavior management strategies and techniques.
• Standard library reference sources, books, and other library related materials.
• IBM, Apple/MacIntosh computer operations, functions, multimedia programs, CD ROM tower and networking
• Winnebago library circulation program and functions.
• Testing manuals – state and district
Ability to:
1. Perform library clerical functions, including circulation and distribution functions.
2. Maintain a variety of records and filing systems pertaining to a library media center.
3. Utilize a variety of reference resource guides.
4. Type or keyboard at a net corrected speed of 30 words per minute.
5. Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
6. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
7. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
8. Maintain a room of students
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
• Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 30 – 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• This type of work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
• Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

EDUCATION:
• High school graduate supplemented by coursework or training in library procedures and general clerical areas.
• AA Degree or 48 college units.
EDUCATION
• One year of experience in a library or instructional materials center.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
• Fingerprint clearance required
• TB clearance required
