Information Technology Asset and Access Services Technician

Salary Range: $5,529 - $6,797 per month

DEFINITION

Incumbents work independently and perform a wide variety of high-level technical tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. Incumbents in this position will be responsible for duties primarily related to Access or Asset services, but will be required to have knowledge of and perform all duties assigned.

 

Access Services: Performs responsibilities in managing IT user account with respect to risk, permission control, governance, and compliance and security objectives. Processes user access requests, ensuring integrity and accuracy of identity data, and requires access be removed or modified when individuals leave San Joaquin Delta College or change job functions. The incumbent is responsible for communication, escalation and timely resolution of any access and permission discrepancies identified through periodic monitoring and auditing activities.

 

Asset Services: Controls and protects the District’s Information Technology hardware and software asset portfolio through their beginning-to-end life cycle from acquisition, installation, maintenance, reassignment, and final disposition. In addition, the incumbent maintains an enterprise-wide asset database, follows department asset standards, implements asset assessments and discusses results and strategizes asset procurement with IT management.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

• Receives general supervision from assigned supervisor. 

• May exercise oversight over student workers in areas of responsibility.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

• Processes employee, faculty, and student access requests from District Management according to standard operating procedures and service level commitments, ensuring proper access is granted.

• Monitors access, user provisioning inside applications, equipment, and prepares reports related to access control and criteria.

• Performs technical proactive segregation-of-duty analysis to ensure end users are not given excessive roles and permissions access.

• Prevents and defends against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data; implementing policies and procedures to ensure proper access.

• Assists in the design and improvement of access administration processes.

• Creates and maintains up-to-date provisioning processes including role management, attestation, report generation and compliance processes.

• Provides technical assistance and needed instruction to network and system users in the use of all equipment, hardware and software applications as it relates to District curriculum and business operations;

• Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and upgrades hardware and software for the District; consults with vendors and manufacures regarding technical problems, and installation of equipment; coordinates excessive repairs with vendors.

• Develops and maintains the District’s IT asset policies and processes.

• Implements IT hardware and software asset life cycle strategies.

• Works in conjunction with Purchasing and IT Operations in procurement strategies for IT hardware and software acquisition.

• Manages the acquisition, deployment, utilization, tracking, security and final disposition of IT assets for the District.

• Updates and maintains Operating System images for all platforms and versions used at the District including driver updates, system updates and system patches. 

• Responds to requests regarding the set up and install of a computer with appropriate software, updates and drivers for delivery.

• Maintains hardware and software inventory including inventory database updates, change of asset location updates, asset move to surplus state and final asset disposition.

• Coordinates new projects, with computer support staff including evaluating new equipment for purchase; consults with vendors and manufacturers regarding equipment specifications, installation requirements and installation of equipment.

• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

 

Knowledge of: 

• Identity Access. 

• Information Security concepts, policies, and procedures.

• Information Security Identity Management tools and software.

• Microsoft Windows, Mac and Mobile device (iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, etc.) terminology.

• Systems integration design concepts and practices. 

• Systems security and capacity planning principles, methods, and practices. 

• IT procurement. 

• Asset management tools.

• Prepare clear and concise documentation and reports

• Sit for prolonged periods of time; extensive use of a computer keyboard; may be required to lift up to 30 pounds.

 

Education, Experience and Training Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems or a related field; and three (3) years of related systems, access administration experience. 

OR

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems or a related field; and four (4) years of related systems, access administration experience. 

 

Specialized training or certification in areas related to account access services, asset maintenance, technical service desk, or other specialized technical areas desired.
