I. Custodian I
II. Definition
Under general supervision, to perform routine cleaning work in a school plant or installation, and do related work consistent with the job description.
III. Examples of Duties
Working from a prepared work schedule, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors; vacuums rugs and carpets in school plant offices and rooms; cleans and dusts walls, furniture, woodwork and other equipment; washes windows; changes lights; sweeps walks and entrances; washes, scrubs, cleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and handrailings; empties and cleans waste containers; assists in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture and other equipment; maintains equipment used in the course of work; performs special custodial work upon request of faculty members; reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards; assists in the cleaning of buildings during vacations; takes swim pool readings and makes necessary adjustments on occasions.

A. Knowledge of:
Modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment;
The tools and basic practices of building routine maintenance work.
B. Ability to:
Meet the public tactfully and courteously and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships;
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
Perform heavy physical labor;
Read and understand directions in use of chemicals and solutions, especially those which could be dangerous to a person's health.
C. Education/Training/Experience:
Completion of 10th grade or equivalent or any combination of education, experience and training which meets or exceeds the standards of knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
