About the Employer
We are a unified school district serving more than 16,150 students in grades K -12. We have thirteen elementary schools, four middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three specialized high schools, two alternative high schools and one K-8 school. We also offer a home schooling program, adult education courses and other unique programs to fit the needs of all students. Our school district employs approximately 1,100 certificated and nearly 900 classified employees. Antioch Unified School District is centrally located in the East Bay and provides ready access to scenic mountains, waterfronts, wine country, historical sites and the Pacific Ocean. The Antioch Unified School District is a Merit System District. As such, final selection of our classified staff members will be made from candidates who have been placed on an eligibility list. Eligibility is determined via an evaluation and competitive screening/scoring of a candidate’s training and experience as demonstrated on the application and responses provided in the supplemental questions.

Basic Function: Under the direction of the Manager-Transportation, schedule and arrange School Bus Transportation for Special Education Transportation, athletics, field trips and other school events; dispatch School Bus Drivers, School Bus Assistants, and Instructional Assistants Special Needs. Assign vehicles according to transportation requirements; participate in planning school bus schedules and routes; and perform other related duties as needed.
Knowledge of: Organization and general requirements of a transportation office including bus scheduling and routing; provisions of the California Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of school buses that transport Special Education Students: Automated and manual record keeping methods, techniques and systems; general office methods, practices and procedures; computer spreadsheet programs and other software used to communicate via email or develop reports; Safe and defensive driving practices: Proper operation of school buses; Applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations; record-keeping techniques; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; health and safety regulations; oral and written communication skills; Basic first aid procedures; special needs students (SEE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION ATTACHED). Education & Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years school bus driving experience. LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A Valid California Special Driver Certificate for School Bus is Required. Valid California Class A or B commercial driver’s license with passenger, air brake and school bus endorsements. Valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency. Maintain good driving record. Valid Medical Card. STRENGTH TESTING: All offers of employment are conditional upon the applicant’s satisfactory results of the Post Offer, Pre-Placement Physical Evaluation Program (PEP).

A passing score must be achieved on each portion of the exams. The date of the exams will be determined.
