SCOPE: High School
POSITION: Library Technician
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Library Technician shall serve under the direct supervision of the Coordinator Library Media Services/designee and will adhere to applicable laws, rules, and regulations of the state, county, and school district governing board. The Library Technician shall be familiar and comply with all collective bargaining contracts pertinent to this position.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shall assist site personnel with library and AV services.
- Shall assist students in the library with library procedures, selection, and checking out materials.
- Shall approve and collect student library charges.
- Shall assist the Coordinator Library Media Services in the development of the site’s collection.
- Shall supervise the site’s library budget.
- Shall supervise AV maintenance and distribution, including library computers and recording televised educational programs.
- Shall maintain a clean orderly work station.
- Shall maintain an acceptable attendance record at the work site.
- Shall be responsible for orderly library procedures for cataloging, checking out, and returning of the site’s library materials.
- Shall supervise library clerks, aides and student assistants.
- Shall be responsible for library displays and bulletin boards.
- Shall be responsible for total library inventory.
- Shall be responsible for monitoring student discipline in the library.
- Shall perform other job related duties as assigned on an equitable basis.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shall have knowledge of library systems, methods, practices, and terminology including Dewey decimal system, card catalog system, reference systems, check out and fining practices.
- Shall have a correct knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Shall have the ability to set up, maintain, supervise, and evaluate the clerical organization of the library.
- Shall be capable of operating office machines (i.e. computers, fax).
- Shall establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
- Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of this position.
- Two years experience involving clerical and computer skills.
- Shall not be restricted from physical activities pertinent to the major duties and responsibilities of this position, including but not limited to, repetitive bending and/or lifting.
- Shall possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. A minimum of two years library work experience.
3. Library Technician Certificate
