 SCOPE:  Elementary            302

 POSITION:  Principal  (A Management Position)

 ACCOUNTABILITY:  The Elementary School Principal shall be under the direct supervision of the Superintendent/designee and will adhere to applicable laws, rules and regulations of the state, county and school district governing board.  The Principal shall be familiar and comply with all collective bargaining contracts pertinent to this position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.         The Principal is responsible for the direction, coordination, guidance and assessment of all site programs.

 2.         Shall plan and coordinate all facets of the school operation preparatory to opening and closing of school.

 3.         Provides leadership in continuing in-service training of the staff.

 4.         Provides continuous supervision of the regular and supplemental instructional program within the school.

5.         Direct and assist in the selection and use of curriculum material.

 6.         Assists staff in review, evaluation, and refinement of methods for meeting individual student needs.

 7.         Provides for effective utilization and evaluation of certificated and classified personnel assigned to the site.

8.         Shall exercise independent judgement in recommending the hiring, transfer, promotion, reward, discipline or assignment of work to appropriate employees.

9.         Communicates and interprets policies, programs, and activities to staff and students.

 10.       Is prompt and thorough in the administration of federal, state and district regulations and directives.

11.       Assists in the selection and assignment of new personnel to staff.

 12.       Directs a varied program of activities designed to encourage increased involvement in the school program and to foster positive student attitudes.

 13.       Directs appropriate action concerning student welfare, discipline and attendance problems.

14.       Directs the administration of pupil assessment procedures and interpretation of resulting data.

 15.       Assures prompt and effective attention to pupil-parent concerns.

 16.       Administers the site budget efficiently and effectively.  Shall keep necessary budget records, submit budget reports, account for monies and property, and perform all other obligations mandated by law, board policy or administrative directives.

 17.       Shall be responsible for all site expenditures.

 18.       Shall supervise the student body finance operations.

19.       Shall interpret school and district programs and activities for community awareness.

20.       Shall effectively involve parents in school programs and activities where appropriate.

 21.       Works closely with related agencies, regarding all facets of student services.

22.       Shall edit and/or revise school published handbooks and arrange publication.

23.       Shall edit the school newspaper and yearbook as appropriate.

 24.       Shall attend all regular Board meetings as required.

25.       Shall keep the Deputy Superintendent continuously informed of conditions of attendance, scholarship, and deportment in all school programs.

26.       Shall be responsible for the review, assignment and follow-up of site maintenance operations.

27.       Shall evaluate and report, as requested, on site facility utilization and needs.

28.       Shall hold ex-officio membership on all committees related to the schools operation.

29.       Shall represent, or appoint a responsible representative to represent the school in all inter-school relationships.

30.       Shall be familiar and insure program compliance with all current collective bargaining contracts pertinent to the district.

31.       Shall perform other job related duties as assigned on an equitable basis.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.         Five years teaching experience.

 2.         Two years administrative experience preferred.

3.         Willingness to update knowledge and skills commensurate with this position.

 1.         Appropriate credential or equivalent for the position.
