WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of technical duties involved in the production, delivery, and end-user training of alternate media and assistive technology for students with disabilities.
The current vacancy is a full-time position (12 mos/year, 40 hrs/week) located at Ventura College.

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

SALARY PLACEMENTNew Employees: Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.

In addition to the 8% salary increase already reflected in the bulletin, the Board of Trustees has approved a 4% increase set for 7/31/2022.
This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.
Representative Duties
Participate in the research, conversion, and editing of sources materials into alternate media formats for students with disabilities (audio, Braille, tactile graphics, large print, transcriptions, captions, plain or electronic text, etc.). E
Research new accessible hardware and software; provide recommendations for the purchase of assistive technology equipment and related materials; issue materials and equipment for student use; maintain records of materials and equipment on loan; monitor and maintain appropriate inventory. E
Submit requests for alternate media formats to appropriate agencies; contact publishers and other agencies to obtain permission to reproduce materials in Braille or large print formats as need. E
Provide technical assistance to campus committees regarding access compliance as outlined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG); develop and deliver trainings related to alternate media and accessibility to the campus community. E
Assess student technological skill levels; determine and recommend appropriate assistive hardware and software; provide technical assistance and training to students in the use of specialized technology. E
Coordinate with Information Technology staff to install, configure, and maintain assistive technology hardware, software, and computer peripherals in appropriate campus locations; maintain related records. E
Serve as a liaison between faculty, staff, students and the Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSP&S) staff for requests related to obtaining, converting, and formatting instructional materials into alternate formats. E
Update and maintain records related to the progress and production of alternate media, usage permissions received, and priority of media produced; develop and maintain a database of alternate media, including textbooks and other instructional materials. E
Schedule and monitor the use of the DSP&S computer centers; maintain schedules of student's assigned computer times and attendance records. E
Provide assistance and support to students participating in online classes; ensure student access to accessible materials online. E
Research and compile data for projects and reports as requested.
Provide work direction and guidance to student workers as assigned.
Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree from a recognized college or university AND two years of experience in alternate media production, access technologies, electronic text production, or closely related experience.
Successful completion of a recognized assistive technology certification program may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Location: The Technical Interview will be conducted remotely, using Zoom. In order to participate in the interview, you must have access to a computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a reliable connection to the internet.
